My Last Five Reads – April 2022

Posted by angelreads Last 5 Reads No Comments

I love doing these posts and it’s been a little bit since I’ve done one. So today I’m sharing with you my last five reads.

My reading has been up and down lately. The main reason for that is because I don’t know what I feel like reading. I don’t know what I am in the mood for. While I do say that, I’ve read some fantastic books recently, and I cannot wait to share them with you. So let’s get into it. As always these are in no order.

The Fine Print (Dreamland Billionaires #1) by Lauren Asher: I don’t know why I put reading this off for so long. The Fine Print has been on my tbr for some time now. And I got my physical copy a few months ago from work. But I finally dug in and I loved it so much. I always say this but I don’t always love contemporary romances. But there is something about this book that just gets me. I think it’s the fact that it’s set in a theme park and there are some really interesting things that they do for their job.

The romance in this one was fantastic, the world is intriguing and cannot wait to continue the series. The characters are fantastic. And the emotions. Whoo. If you are looking for some interesting contemporary romances, pick this up.

Praise (Salacious Players Club #1) by Sara Cate: Now I’ve read a Sara Cate book before and really didn’t like it, but I kept on seeing this one pop up on my Tiktok feed, so I thought I would give it another go. And while I did enjoy this one better, I still didn’t love it. It was good don’t get me wrong. But there were still a lot of things missing for me.

I really enjoyed the romance as a whole, but there was so much back and forth that it got quite boring at times. He kept on saying no, they pulled her in and then no again. It just made things stop in place. I was just wanting more.

I enjoyed the concept of the book and the world though, I will probably continue the series. It was a quick read and I expect the rest of the series to be in the same way. I’m intrigued to see who the other characters end up with.

Taken by a Sinner (Sinners #1) by Michelle Heard: I hadn’t about this book before it popped up on kindle unlimited. And while I didn’t love it. It was still an interesting read. I haven’t read many books with Greek characters let alone the Greek Mafia, so I really enjoyed it. If you didn’t know I’m half Greek, so I found this really interesting.

The romance was an arranged marriage of sorts. While I wasn’t a massive fan of how they came together, I liked what came after. It was actually sweet at times. It also wasn’t as smutty or dark as I expected it to be. I mean yes it’s still a mafia romance, but I felt that it was on the tamer side for most of the book.

I would have liked to see a little more of a mundane life here, but overall, not a bad read and I will most likely continue the series.

Doing It Right by Harloe Rae: Well this book was not for me. I got it KU because I kept on seeing it pop up on my for you page. I really enjoy single parent romances, but this one was just not it. The first thing was I didn’t like the protagonists that much. They both just felt shallow and nothing much redeemed. I didn’t hate them or anything, but there wasn’t anything interesting happening.

The romance was okay. I normally love second chance romances but I just felt nothing happened here. They jumped right into it and didn’t talk a lot about things. It was like okay I love you.

This book reminded me why I don’t always love contemporary romances. Nothing much happened really. I do know that others do like it a lot though.

Lavender and Lightning (Pack Saint Clair #2) by Thora Woods: I’m not going to talk too much about this as I have a review coming next week. But I’ve been looking forward to reading this since I read the first book earlier this year. Which I loved.

And while I didn’t love this one as much as the first, I still really did enjoy it. I like the way the omegaverse works in the world. It’s not straight bam, let’s bond. It’s a nice slow build.

New relationships are grown throughout this book and I’m so happy to see them. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the series brings.

And there we go. Those are my last five reads. What have you read recently? Did you enjoy them? Let’s Chat!

Books From Authors I Haven’t Read, But Want To

Posted by angelreads Top Ten Tuesday 5 Comments

This week I’m sharing the books I want to read from authors I have yet to read a book from. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

My TBR is ever-growing, and today I’m sharing with you the books from authors that I want to read but haven’t had the chance yet. Since I’ve started to read more and more romance. My TBR has grown at a very fast rate. Because of this, I’m finding new authors that I want to read.

The books that I have mentioned today are from authors that have caught my eye recently and over the last year. I’m hoping to get to them soon! As always these are in no real order.

The Never King (Vicious Lost Boys #1) by Nikki St. Crowe | The Unseelie Prince (Maze of Shadows #1) by Kathryn Ann Kingsley. | Twisted Ginni by Nicola Rose | Pack Darling: Part One (Pack Darling #1) by Lola Rock.

The Bridge Kingdom (The Bridge Kingdom #1) by Danielle L. Jensen | Pandora by Susan Stokes-Chapman. | Gild (The Plated Prisoner #1) by Raven Kennedy | A Pack of Blood and Lies (The Boulder Wolves #1) by Olivia Wildenstein.

Fortuna Sworn (Fortuna Sworn #1) by K.J. Sutton | Promises and Pomegranates (Monsters & Muses #1) by Sav R. Miller.

And there we go. Those are the books from authors that I haven’t read before that I want to read soon. Have you read any of these books? Have you read anything from these authors? Let’s Chat!

Currently Reading Book Tag

Posted by angelreads Book Tag No Comments

I’m loving doing book tags more and more recently, so today I thought I would do the Currently Reading Book Tag. This was created by Charly Reynhorse. And don’t forget to check out their view.

Also if you have any book tags that you would like me to check out and maybe do, let me know! I always like discovering new tags to do. So let’s get right into it.

1. How many books do you usually read at once?

I normally can only read one book at a time. I don’t have the brain capacity to read multiple books at once, because then I start getting confused. Stories start to blend and then I don’t know what is happening. However, sometimes I will listen to a book and then have one on the go in physical form. But if this does happen, the one that I am reading by audiobook is most likely nonfiction.

2. If you’re reading more than one book at a time, how do you decide when to switch to reading the other book (do you read a certain amount of pages in each?)

Because I travel a lot for work. I would normally listen to my audio on the train and then read a physical book or on my phone during my break and at home. But normally I would to at least finish a chapter, or get to the point of a book where I can put it down.

3. Do you ever switch bookmarks while you’re partway through a book?

I use whatever I can get my hands on as bookmarks so yes. I’m really bad and I have so many different bookmarks, but if it’s not in grabbing distances, then it doesn’t go in. Most of the time it’s a piece of paper, a receipt, or whatever else I have around.

4. Where do you keep the book you’re currently reading?

Depends where I am. For the most part, it stays in my bookbag, which is inside one of the bags that I take to work. I work 5 days a week, so it’s more convenient for me to have it there. However, if it’s not there, it’s on the side of my bed close to me.

5. What time of day do you spend the most time reading?

In the morning and at night. As I’ve said before, I do most of my reading travelling to and from work. It’s about a 40min – 1 hour travel time each way, so I do get a lot of reading done in that time. I’m on public transport for most of it. When I’m at home, it’s whenever I have the time really.

6. How long do you typically read in one go?

This is such a hard question to answer because it honestly depends on the book. But typically 40 minutes. But I could read for a few hours if I’m really into the book. And there are times that I can finish a book in a whole sitting.

7. Do you read hardcovers with the dust jacket on or off?

I don’t own many hardcovers, because they are super expensive here in Australia. But when I do read my hardcovers, dustjacket off for sure.

8. Which position do you mainly use to read?

On the train, sitting. If I am at home. I love just laying in my bed and reading. I have a lot of back problems so sitting for too long makes things difficult.

9. Do you take the book you’re currently reading with you everywhere you go?

Pretty much. And if I don’t. I always have my phone on me which I use to read my kindle books. It’s not very often that I go anywhere without a book.

10. How often do you update your progress in the book you’re currently reading on Goodreads?

Pretty much right away. I would forget otherwise. I don’t always update the book that I am currently reading all the time. But as soon as I finish it, I update it. There are months when I would read quite a few books and if I don’t update my Goodreads, I might forget some.

11. Who would you like to tag?

I am tagging whoever wants to do this tag. Let me know when you do the tag because I would love to check it out.

And there we go. That is this week’s tag done. What might your answers be to these questions? What are you currently reading? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
