Very Up and Down | February Wrap Up

Posted by angelreads Monthly Wrap Up No Comments

February was a very up and down month for me. I started it off really well, but then I fell into a small book slump. I honestly just didn’t know what I wanted to read and then couldn’t really get into anything. But I still had a decent month.

Like the past few months have been going. I pretty much read-only romance. But I did get some new adult through my re-reads. It happens every time I watch the Winter Olympics. I had to read some figure skating books, I don’t know what it is.

I still read a lot of books I loved this month. Most of them were 3 stars and just kinda okay. Now enough of this. Let’s get right into it. As always these are in no real order.

Wicked Gods (Gifted Academy #1) by Michelle Hercules – 4 Stars | Ruthless Idols (Gifted Academy #2) by Michelle Hercules – 3 Stars | Hateful Heroes (Gifted Academy #3) by Michelle Hercules – 3 Stars | Crossing the Ice (Ice #1) by Jennifer Comeaux – 3 Stars.

Diver’s Heart by K.A. Knight – 3 Stars | Claimed by Cupid (Nick and Holly #2) by Dana Isaly– 3.5 Stars | Losing the Ice (Ice #2) by Jennifer Comeaux – 3 Stars Re-read | From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata – 4 Stars

Savage (Savage Fall Sinners MC #1) by Caitlyn Dare – 3.5 Stars | Taking the Ice (Ice #3) by Jennifer Comeaux – 3 Stars Re-read | Sacrifice (Savage Fall Sinners MC #2) by Caitlyn Dare – 3 Stars | Sacred (Savage Fall Sinners MC #3) by Caitlyn Dare – 3 Stars.

Sever (Savage Fall Sinners MC #4) by Caitlyn Dare – 2.5 Stars | Crank (Red Ridge Sinners MC) by Caitlyn Dare – 3 Stars | Broken Knights (Gifted Academy #4) by Michelle Hercules – 3 Stars | Good Deeds by Kathryn Moon – 3 Stars.

On the Rocks (Becker Brothers #1) by Kandi Steiner – 3.5 Stars | Old Fashioned (Becker Brothers #4) by Kandi Steiner – 4 Stars | Our Overtime (Ice League #1) by S.C. Kate – 2 Stars |  Twisted Love (Twisted #1) by Ana Huang – 3.5 Stars.

Twisted Games (Twisted #2) by Ana Huang – 4 Stars

And there we go! Those are all the books that I read in February. While it was a crash-hot reading I still feel like I did pretty good. I’m hoping that I can get out of this small slump soon and get back to reading even more. However, I am not going to push it at all.

Books I Enjoyed, But Rarely Mention On Angel Reads

Posted by angelreads Top Ten Tuesday 4 Comments

This week I’m sharing the books I’ve enjoyed, but rarely mention on Angel Reads. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

This was a really interesting topic this week. I changed it up a little bit, because I talk about nearly every book that I read on here. So I thought change it to books that I rarely talk about that I enjoyed. Most of these I gave 4 stars and above, but I just seem to not talk about them a lot. Enough of this let’s get right into it. And as always these are in no order.

My Darling Duke (Sinful Wallflowers #1) by Stacy Reid | The Extraordinaries (The Extraordinaries #1) by T.J. Klune | To Love and to Loathe (The Regency Vows #2) by Martha Waters | Get a Life, Chloe Brown (The Brown Sisters #1) by Talia Hibbert.

Rebel (Women Who Dare #1) by Beverly Jenkins | Birthday Shot by Rilzy Adams | Playing with Fire by L.J. Shen | Drag Me Up (Gods of Hunger #1) by R.M. Virtues.

The Ones Who Got Away (The Ones Who Got Away #1) by Roni Loren | The Kingmaker (All the King’s Men #1) by Kennedy Ryan.

Those are the books I’ve enjoyed reading, but rarely mention on the blog. As I said before, I really enjoyed all of these books a lot. I need to talk about them more for sure. Have you read any of these? What books made your list? Let’s Chat!

Astrological Book Tag

Posted by angelreads Book Tag No Comments

I haven’t done a book in a little while and I thought it would be fun to try something new. I found this tag while blogging hoping and found this tag which I thought would be fun. The Astrological Book Tag was created by Peace and Love and Veggies.

I had a lot of fun doing this post and tags always makes for some interesting answers. So let’s get right into it.

Name a book you’ve read that was full of fire, desire and passion

This has to go to Neon Gods by Katee Robert. This is hot, sexy and just so smutty. But it’s not just about sexy time. You can see Hades and Persphone fall for one each other slowly. Sure they desire one another, but as the book goes on the fire and passion grow. From the start, the reader is able to feel and see the spark between the two – even before they admit it. I could have easily also picked Electric Idol for this one.

You can check out what I loved Neon Gods so much.

Name a book you’ve read that was beautifully written

It shouldn’t be a surprise that I picked The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller for this one. Not only is this book so beautifully written, but it’s also easy to understand. I find that sometimes when a book has flowery writing I don’t know what is going on half the time. But here I knew what was happening. And at times it hurt so much. I didn’t mind it however because I wanted to keep on reading.

You can check out the 5 reasons why I loved The Song of Achilles now. And if you haven’t read it and love Greek Mythology, beautifully written work to something that is just so good. Then read this.

Name a book you’ve read that featured twins

This has to go to a recent read of mind. It’s Caleb and Austen from the Kit Davenport series by Tate James. They are totally opposite from one another but that is what made them so entertaining. One is stern and broody and the other is full of energy. I always feel strange about family members in rh’s but it worked pretty okay here.

I liked the character arcs of both the twins. It worked really well for me. This is a great series and if you are looking for a paranormal poly romance then this is a great one to start with.

Name a book you’ve read that was a real tear-jerker

I don’t know how many times I can mention that this book didn’t just make me cry. But it made me sob. And the book has to be The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros.

This book explores childhood illness, war, family and everything that comes along with life. There are many surprises in-store when reading, but it’s also a beautiful story of love and family. It’s not an easy read. As I said I sobbed in this book. And yes I cry easily but this one hurts. A lot. I still hurt thinking about it.

However, it’s so worth it and if you haven’t read it, please do.

Name a book you’ve read that featured courageous characters

There are so many books that this one could be about, but The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy #1) by Marie Rutkoski is the one that I had to pick. Not only is this one of my favourite books of all time, but it explores courageousness in different ways.

Kestrel and Arin both face challenges not only in this book but throughout the whole series. They have to stand up for themselves, those around them and even their countries.

Name a book you’ve read that was pure perfection

This one was a hard pick for me. But in the end, I landed on Queen of Air and Darkness (The Dark Artifices #3) by Cassandra Clare. While there was so much hurt and heartbreak, this book was perfect.

There was so much that happened before this book started, and the way everything tied up was so well done. And even though I’ve read many Cassandra Clare books before, I didn’t feel like everything was the same. It just stood out and the pain was bad. But in the end it was so good.

Name a book you’ve read that was neither good nor bad

This has to go to a more recent read of mine and that is Diver’s Heart by K.A. Knight. It’s a book I’ve been wanting to read for a while and finally picked it up this month. The premise of this book was fascinating and the whole concept caught my eye, but it just didn’t hit all the right places.

The first 60/70% were pretty good. But then the ending just let it down. I also felt that it was way too long for my liking. And that’s why it was either a good or bad book for me.

Name a book you’ve read that was dark and mysterious

This is such an interesting one. I’m a Scorpio so it took it just made me really think. But I have to go with War by Laura Thalassa.

While this isn’t the darkest book of the series, it is dark and quite mysterious. War is my favourite of the series and I think it’s because it is dark and mysterious. With the other books, we kinda know what we are going into. But there is something about War that makes everything so unpredictable.

Name a book you’ve read that was full of adventure

Well, this was an easy pick. It has to be Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan. This whole series as a whole. If this isn’t full of adventure I don’t know what is.

I love this series with everything in me and It’s one of the main series that I am always recommending at work. All the books that Riordan has created and just full of adventure. But Percy Jackson is a classic and everyone can read it. I’m planning to do a re-read soon and I’m so damn excited.

Name a book you’ve read that made you think

I honestly could have included all the books that Elizabeth Acevedo has written but The Poet X is my choice. This book just hits. Hard. If you haven’t read this one, please do. It’s another one that I am always recommending. And if you like to listen to audiobooks, that’s how I recommend reading this one. It just hits so differently.

The Poet X explores everything from race to family and high expectations. It’s about growing up, figuring out life and becoming an adult. It’s packed full of beautiful prose and you will probably cry.

Name a book you’ve read that was really quirky

I knew I was going to love this book, but I didn’t expect it to love it that much, but this one has to go to The Mistletoe Motive by Chloe Liese. This was also more quirky than I thought it would be and I loved it.

It’s a novella about two people that work in a bookstore. It’s a dislike to love and just so well done. I’ve come to really love Chloe Liese’s books and this one just hit the posts for me. It’s sexy, romance and the two of them together hit so well. Plus it includes disability rep so that is a win for me.

Name a book you’ve read that was very imaginative

This one was another hard one. Because to me, most books are imaginative. But in the end, I picked Tin (Faeries of Oz #1) by Candace Robinson and Amber R. Duell. A Wizard of Oz based story with faeries and even more magic. This wasn’t what I was expecting it to be but I loved it. The world is intriguing and interesting. The characters are fantastic. And I loved all the hits of the wizard of oz.

It’s not your typical retelling or inspired by the story. It’s original but still has that Oz fell

And there we go! It had so much full putting this book tag together. I tag anyone that wants to be a part of it. Let me know if you do it! Have you read any of the books I mentioned? Do you agree with my picks? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
