Discussion: Book Bloggers Vs Booktubers?

Discussion: Book Bloggers Vs Booktubers?

Jun 17, 2015

discussion

I have been wanting to talk about this for a while now as I could see it all coming to the surface and after the last few days I thought it was the perfect time to talk about. I don’t know much, with what has happened in the last few days between book bloggers and booktubers and what I am saying today is all my opinion.

I feel, personally that there is a big division between book bloggers and booktubers. I have been feeling about this for a while and I did briefly speak about it on twitter, I think.

There is rarely any interaction between the two forms of book lovers. Yes, there is some here and there, but it doesn’t go far. Before this year, I use to watch booktubers all the time. I loved hearing about books in a different form other than writing, (which I love obviously), but in the last couple of months I have felt this shift. I don’t know what it is.

From the booktubers that I watch, do you know that I have never heard them speak about any book bloggers? And I watch a fair few. It saddens me to think about it, why is there this division? Likewise, I haven’t read a lot of bloggers talk about them either.

I feel that booktubers have a watch wider audience, because well, someone can sit down and just watch. They can get non-readers to maybe start thinking about reading books more. And they can people who love to read to read more. While book bloggers have a specific audience – people who love to read.

I also think that booktubers acquire a lot more from the media in a sense that they get invited to a lot more events than those who write about books and I understand the logical. But if someone has been bloggers say the last three years, then some booktuber comes along who has only been making videos for a year at the most, while getting to go to a lot more things. You get where I am going here yer? Or even booktubers that get good opportunities. (And I am not saying that they don’t deserve it, because they do for sure.)

As I said before there is rarely any interaction between the two groups. Booktubers stick with booktubers and book bloggers stick with book bloggers. Don’t get me wrong, there are many book bloggers that watch and talk about booktubers, but I don’t know if there is many booktubers that read book blogs. Please if you are, I would love to know.

I also know that there are many people who cross over, that have book blogs and are booktubers. And I think that is great – because they are helping the community blend together. But I still think there is this division.

There is some booktubers out there, that are pretty big and have done so well and I wish that they can start with the integration of the two groups. Because in the end we all love books. It just frustrates me, that some people don’t care or that they light a fire.

The hashtag that was going around for booktubelove – that is what separates us from each other and it’s frustrating because we all love the same thing. I am not undermining anyone here, but like I said before booktubers have more of a voice with the bigger community and they can help unite us. But book bloggers have to let it happen.

We all work just as hard as each other. People think that blogging is easy, but it isn’t in any way, shape or form. We can spend hours writing posts, editing, taking photos, editing those, putting the post together etc. But so do booktubers, they have to film everything, edit it the videos etc. We all CREATE and we all work hard.

Furthermore, I hope that I have not offended anyone, and I am not having a go.  I am just saying what I feel and how I see it, please don’t think that I am having a go at you. Sorry for this long ranty like post, but I felt that I had to say something.

Before I leave this, please don’t send hate to each other, we all love the same thing. We all care about the same thing. I don’t think we should define outselves as different, we are all book lovers. Yes, you can stick up for each other but sometimes we you do that, you shut people out.

Discussion: Please STOP Hate Reviews

May 21, 2015

discussion

I am not one to give negative feedback. It is not sometime that I was made to do, I just cannot let myself write something that I don’t want to read myself.

Feedback is good, the good and the bad. But when someone bluntly reviews a book without any thoughts and just shams the book, makes me so frustrated.

Someone has spent year’s possible working on the book and to have someone just sham it like no tomorrow would tear this author to shreds. And yes, I understand that when you put your work out there in the work that it is open to criticism. But for someone to just tear your work to pieces isn’t right.

There is a way to go about. Criticism is good. Saying what you didn’t like what you read is perfectly fine. Saying that you didn’t like certain characters is fine as well, but saying that this author is horrible and that they should not be writing isn’t.

When you review books, there is some sort of professionalism about you. You may not be getting paid to review books, but there is some protocol to follow, it may be invisible but it is there.

I don’t know how people go be so hateful in their reviews, I am not even the author and I cringe at what I read sometimes. It’s horrible. How can people sit behind a computer screen and just let their fingers type such hate.

There is a difference between negative and hate reviews. Negative reviews say what THEY didn’t like about the book, and what THEY think could have worked better. While hate reviews, just pull the book and even the author to shreds.

I don’t like all the books I read, and there are certain aspects of books that I don’t like. But I say that I didn’t like it and what I think can be fixed I don’t say that because of this the book was horrible and never should have been published.

I don’t see much of this on blogs, but I defiantly see it in places like Goodreads and twitter. It’s fine to say that you didn’t like the book, I have no problem with that at all. But it’s when a review is hate driven and not constructive criticism.

Another factor is when a reader doesn’t like a particular author and they just read a book just so they can write a hateful review and you can tell when it’s those types of people. They don’t give the book a light of day, they simply don’t bother.

There are some authors that I personally don’t like, after I see them on twitter or interviews, but that doesn’t mean I will hate their books. It is simply wrong. Like I have said, I am not one to give a negative review and a hateful one at that.

I don’t know how people have the heart to hate on a book that an author has spent quite a bit of time on.

Nevertheless to the people that are giving hate reviews, please stop for a minute and think about what you are writing. You may not like the book and that is totally fine, write about what you didn’t like and what you think would be better don’t just write a review full of hate.

Discussion: Casting Adaptations

Discussion: Casting Adaptations

May 2, 2015

discussion

If you follow me on Twitter you have almost certainly have seen me rant about this. But with all the negatively that I’m seeing in Facebook comments and on twitter I feel that I need to say something.

Casting for a movie or TV show is certainly not going to be 100% spot on. There are few reasons why and I am going to try to tell you why.

Primarily since an author doesn’t create a character from a person that already exists, the person that they cast will not look exactly the same. The author creates a character from his or hers mind so when somebody is cast as them, they aren’t going to have the same appearance, as this character is not real.

Another issue is that people also create their own version of a character when they are reading. This could be totally different from the author’s formation of this person. All of us, imagine characters in diverse ways.

People cannot go and accuse casting directors, anyone connected to the adaptation or even the author for that matter that who was cast, is horrible and isn’t that character. Since that is who they pictured.

If you don’t know what has happened with the recent casting of a few key characters in The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, new TV series ‘Shadowhunters‘ then all you need to do is go and check on twitter or on Facebook posts about it and just look in the comments.

Three characters have been cast at the moment. When Dominic Sheerwood was cast as Jace the response was pretty acceptable for the most part. But last night when Izzy and Simon were cast there was mayhem and people were and still are horrible.

Alberto Rosende was cast as Simon and after merely seeing just a head shot (that is professionally taken), people judged him. Even before they had even saw him in character. However since then people have calmed down, only after they were able to see him with glasses in his introduction video.  Yet people are still saying that he is not “geeky looking.” Yet the thing is, the only tributes that make him geeky are his glasses, his clothes and how he acts but once he turns into a vampire he changes. He loses the glasses and becomes “hot” and Alberto has it all.

Now to Isabelle. Emeraude Toubia is absolutely, stunningly gorgeous.  Yes her skin may be darker than what is alleged in the books but she has the appearance of Izzy in ever shape and form. There are edits already with Emeraude in black clothes and tats and she looks pretty damn awesome.

People likewise keep on going, on about how they are using unknown actors. However, yes they may be unfamiliar but for all we could know, they could be unbelievable actors.

Also when people say that the person cast doesn’t have the exact hair or eye colour, I just believe that these people don’t use their brain. Like seriously its called hair dye (do people think that my hair is naturally pink) and also there is a thing called eye contacts.

The thing that is irritating me the most throughout this whole thing, like a fly that doesn’t want to leave you alone. Is that people want the movie characters back. People need to get it into their thick skulls the movie cast are not going to come back. I don’t understand how small-minded some people are. I am not trying to offend people here but it is not going to happen and I will tell you why.

The movie was not good! Simple, the script was to cliché. A lot of the cast could not act and I am sorry to say that. Don’t get me wrong I love Jamie and Lily and all the cast, but they were just not right (and I am not talking about looks here). There was no spark between Jace and Clary, and that did hinder the movie because the romance plays such a vital role.

I know that some people love the old cast and that is totally acceptable but you need to get over it. They will not be in the TV show. The movie and the TV series are two very separate things and starting with a new cast and crew is a good way to go in hope of a successful series.

Truly, I cannot wait to watch Shadowhunters and see all the action if anything goes by how they are casting, I think the books are in respectable hands and I am hoping that the script and the rest of the cast add to it. Shadowhunters is set to hit out TV screens early 2016.

Stay in tune with the show and like their Facebook page, twitter and Instagram. Also stay in touch with me by following me through bloglovin’ and liking my Facebook page and twitter.

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
