How do you define yourself when others have already decided who you are?

Six years ago, when Camden Daniels came back from war without his younger brother, no one in the small town of Alba, Colorado, would forgive him—especially his father. He left, swearing never to return.

But a desperate message from his father brings it all back. The betrayal. The pain. And the need to go home again.

But home is where the one person he still loves is waiting. Willow. The one woman he can never have. Because there are secrets buried in Alba that are best left in the dark.

If only he could tell his heart to stay locked away when she whispers she’s always loved him, and always will…

Great and Precious Things is a heart-wrenching story about family, betrayal, and ultimately how far we’re willing to go on behalf of those who need us most.

Look how pretty the cover is. I’ve really loved Rebecca’s last two covers the most. The covers for The Last Letter and Great And Precious Things are very simple, but it’s enough. From the getgo you already get the emotion of the book somehow.

And then let’s talk about the synopsis. I have nearly cried in every Rebecca Yarros book I’ve read and this one sounds like it’s going to tear me to small little pieces. I seriously cannot wait to read this one. If you love romances that tear you apart but also make you fall in love with the characters – then Rebecca Yarros books are for you.

About the Author

Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and a lover of all things coffee, chocolate, and paleo. She is the author of The Last Letter, the Renegade series, and the Flight & Glory series, which includes Full Measures, the award-winning Eyes Turned Skyward, Beyond What is Given, and Hallowed Ground. She loves military heroes and has been blissfully married to hers for eighteen years.

When she’s not writing, she’s tying hockey skates for her four sons, sneaking in some guitar time, or watching brat-pack movies with her two daughters. She lives in Colorado with the hottest Apache pilot ever, their rambunctious gaggle of kids, and an English bulldog who is more stubborn than sweet. Having fostered and adopted their youngest daughter, Rebecca is passionate about helping others in the foster system through her nonprofit, One October.

Beckett,

If you’re reading this, well, you know the last-letter drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there was any chance you could have saved me, you would have.

I need one thing from you: get out of the army and get to Telluride.

My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. It’s not fair.

And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart. She’s going to need help.

So if I’m gone, that means I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m begging you, as my best friend, go take care of my sister, my family.

Please don’t make her go through it alone.

Ryan

The Last Letter:

I received an earc of The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

Also a quick note, I tried to not spoil anything in this review, however, there were things that I had to speak about. In saying that a lot of the things that I did mention happen close to the start of the novel. Reminder to stay to the end to win a copy of The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros

Rebecca Yarros was one of the first New Adult and Adult romance author that I really loved and devoured their books. So, of course, I had to pick up her newest edition. And gosh this one got me when I finished reading The Last Letter, I just cried. It was an emotional rollercoaster for sure, but oh so good.

The Last Letter follows protagonists Ella and Beckett as they write to one another while he is off fighting for his country. But then tragedy strikes in so many different ways and Ella and Beckett are brought together. But after all this time can Beckett tell Ella who he really is, or will it hide it from her forever. Ella has already been pulled through the blender, but nothing matters more to her than her children, but when things starting falling apart, she doesn’t know if she can stay together anymore.

Aurelie Tack

Ella was such a fabulous protagonist and I fell in love with her right from the start.  She is such a strong female character that it was so easy to fall into her life. From the very start, the reader is able to see how much Ella cares about those around, especially her two children. She will do anything for them. But she will also do heaps for her brother. So when he asks to write to a fellow teammate, she does and everything starts from there. Ella is put through a lot during The Last Letter, especially with Maisie and her health. But I also think it added to Ella’s character arc, she isn’t the same person at the end of the novel as she was at the start. And although Rebecca Yarros put her through, hell, Ella was pretty amazing at the end.

Beckett was a really interesting protagonist. I could see a lot of Rebecca Yarros other characters in him, but he also stood very strong on his own. Like Ella, he has been through a lot, and while the reader doesn’t know anything at the start, as the novel goes, everything starts to fall into place. I really liked getting to know Beckett, not only through this point of view but also through the letters between him and Ella.

I think that the letters enabled the reader to see Beckett in a different way as there wasn’t a filter. My heart broke with how much he cared about Ella and her two kids, he took everything head on and wanted to give them the best he could. The thing that I liked best about Beckett was that he was a character on his own, he didn’t fall as a love interest or a side character. He had his own story, his own past and his own character arc.

Christiana Rivers

The romance was everything. When I pick up romance novels, I am normally expecting a fast-paced romance. But the romance in The Last Letter was slow and perfect. The reader is able to see Ella and Beckett fall in love, not only in real life but also through their letters. Rebecca Yarros was able to really utilised her life experiences with the military to really capture the essence of these letters and everything that happens while at war and on leave. I adored that they just slowly fell for each other and built lives together.

And while it is slow, it’s not snail slow. It’s done in such a way that the reader falls into the story and keeps egging them both to get together. It also wasn’t perfect. They had their ups and downs, but that made The Last Letter so much more real. The characters were leaping off the page and had substance.

Something else that stood out to me in The Last Letter was the family dynamics between Beckett and Ella as well as her children; Maisie and Colt. My heart was so full and I couldn’t stop smiling with how much they all cared for one another. Maisie and Colt are adorable and just made the novel so much better. Their innocence, but resilence just shone through. The reader is not able to see the relationship between Ella and Beckett grow, but also Beckett’s relationship with Maisie and Colt.  He really took them under his wing and it was such a nice thing to see. Both Maisie and Cold adored Beckett and he returned it as well. There is a line that Maisie days to Ella that just broke me towards the end of the book about Beckett and Colt and gosh I couldn’t handle it.

Annie Spratt

I am not going to lie, it doesn’t take much to make me cry. Really I cry at things most people don’t. But I haven’t cried like I did while reading The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros, in such a long time. It was a full sob cry, like a hurt in my chest kind of cry. Yarros was able to create so many emotions throughout the whole book, but the last couple of chapters torn me apart. My heart felt like it was being ripped out of my chest over and over again. I don’t want to say too much about what exactly made me cry so hard, but when you read, I think you will know. As I am writing this review, I am thinking about everything that happened, and I want to cry again.

Overall, The Last Letter is a very emotional read. I cried so much in this book. But that is also what made it so good. Both Ella and Beckett have incredible character arcs that really captured me from the start. The reader is not only able to see them grow as individuals, but also together. The Last Letter explores childhood illness, war, family and everything that comes along with life. There are many surprised in store when reading, but it’s also a beautiful story of love and family. If you are looking for a new romance or contemporary read, then please pick this one up.

She’ll defy his every expectation.

She’s Penna Carstairs.
The Renegade they call Rebel.
FMX-treme Magazine’s sexiest female athlete of the year.
There’s no rule in extreme sports she hasn’t broken,
No gender barrier she hasn’t demolished.

She’s the woman I met in a bar in Vegas.
The woman I illegally BASE jumped for.
The woman I spent one insane, incredible night with.
But now I’m screwed.
Or rather…not screwed.

Because the woman I can’t get out of my head is the one woman I can never touch again.
I’m Dr. Cruz Delgado—the youngest professor on this campus,
And Penelope Carstairs just walked into my class.

Rebel:

I received an e-arc of Rebel by Rebecca Yarros from Entangled, in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

I was very nervous about picking this one up. I have loved all the other Rebecca Yarros books that I have read over the last couple of years. But then when the synopsis came out – I hesitated. I am not a massive fan of student/teacher relationship. While this one is slightly different – it did keep me on edge for most of the book.

Rebel follows Penelope Carstairs, the only female of the original Renegades – amazing on the bike and will try any extreme sport that she can. She likes to be one of the ‘boys’ and wants to do everything that they can do – being a female hasn’t stopped her – and it never will. But, after her accident in Wilder she is scared. Scared to go back on the bike, scared to try. Then on the night, she wants to let go and fly, she meets Cruz and well things get interesting.

Cruz wasn’t expecting for his life to be changed in Vegas. The last thing he thought he would be doing is BASE jumping. But, when things start to fall into place – he goes with. Until he gets onto a ship, the same ship as Penelope Carstairs. And he isn’t there as a student.

I loved Penna when we first meet her in Wilder. I loved that she was a female and from our side she never let that get to you. It was great seeing a strong female character that does everything a male could do. She was into typically male sports and didn’t let that get her down.

However, after the incident in book one, we know that she isn’t exactly the same. And we really get to see that in Rebel. I loved seeing her both scared and ready to take on the world in one go. We see that it really wasn’t just the injury stopping her, but the betrayal of everything that happened.

Cruz was a fun male protagonist to get along with. He tries to keep up with Penna was much as he can, but he has his own demons to slay. From the start of Rebel, we know that Cruz will do many things and I loved seeing him try and keep up with Penna and the rest of the Renegades.

As I said before, this is a teacher/student relationship to a sense. Penna and Cruz meet before he starts teaching her and she is over 20. That is how I kind of let myself see the romance. If she was younger, I would probably not have liked it.

I liked how they seem to ‘fit’ with each other so well. They cared about a lot of the same things and it just seemed to work.

Family is a big aspect of Rebel. We already know through the other books how much the Renegades care about each other and we see more of that in Rebel. However, we also see how Penna is going with her sister and gosh these scenes were hard to read. I felt for Penna so much. Throughout Rebel, we see that family can be both of blood and by heart. I liked that in times of need the Renegades were there.

At times I felt that the plot was a little ‘big,’ and unbelievable. But, I went along with it. Rebel is heart breaking and heart stopping. You are on the edge of your seat and towards the end, you have no idea what is going to happen. There are some parts I was able to guess early but also kept on my toes.

Overall, Rebel is a heartwarming and heartbreaking read. It explores the notion of doing what every you can for family and love. It’s about believing in yourself and letting go. Rebel explores the journey of someone learning to love themselves and believe in who they are. It’s fun and pulls at your heart strings. And let’s not forget heart stopping stunts, steamy love and amazing friendship.

Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Vict Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Victoria Wilder’s Bourbon Boys series, and as soon as I heard she was writing a new series, around whiskey and women. Well, hell year. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but after a few chapters, I was hooked.

Wyn is hiding, hiding from everyone, even when she is there. She is hiding behind so much, and damn, I don’t blame her. We don’t know everything from the start, but we start piecing things together, and my heart broke. And I was terrified for her. But she is a Crowne woman, and that means something.

We’ve met Julian before, and while he intrigued me before, I am invested now. He is charming, secretive in the best way and will do anything at this point for Wyn. But he is also lost, and somehow he finds his way to Rumour and back into Wyn’s life.

The romance is hot and steamy and everything that you want. The tension and chemistry in this one is high. Neither Wyn nor Julian wants to really give in or give up on one another, but a lot is standing in their way, honestly, mainly themselves. I just sat there giggling half the time because they are swoon-worthy.

I would say this is the darkest Victoria Wilder book I’ve read, so double-check those trigger warnings before jumping in because there is a lot that happens. And I don’t think it’s going to die down any time soon because these Crowne women are badass, and I know things are only just getting started.

Overall, Rumors & Whiskey is hot and sexual. The tension is dripping off the page, and then you are thrown into the terror and horrors of Rumour. You don’t know what is going to happen next, you don’t know who to trust, and there are so many more secrets that have yet to be revealed. I know I am ready for more. Are you?

Thank you to @atriabooksaus for an earc of Rumors & Whiskey 🥃. I’m in love.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I onl Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I only ended up reading 3 books in. 3 pretty fun books but one of my slowest readings months in a while.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
