Stacy Reid

Series Review: Sinful Wallflowers by Stacy Reid

Series Review: Sinful Wallflowers by Stacy Reid

Mar 14, 2021

A little while ago I was asked to review the second book in the Sinful Wallflowers series by Stacy Reid and it sounded fantastic. So I picked up the first book My Darling Duke before I started the second. And let me tell you I had a fantastic time, so today I thought I would share my thoughts and feelings on My Darling Duke and The Wicked Marquess. Let’s Go.

My Darling Duke (Sinful Wallflowers #1) by Stacy Reid

Pages: 377
Publish date: December 31st 2019
Publisher: Entangled: Amara
ISBN: 9781640637450
Purchase: Book Depository – Amazon UK – Amazon US – Amazon AU

Miss Katherine Danvers is a desperate wallflower. Her family is on the brink of financial ruin, and it is up her to save her mother and sisters from a life of indignities. So she transforms herself into the incomparable Kitty Danvers, the fiancée of the enigmatic and reclusive Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton—once dubbed the mad, bad, and dangerous catch of the Season.

Ten years ago, society and the woman Alexander Masters loved called him a monster, after a tragic accident left him scarred and confined to a wheelchair. His heart exists in cold, lonely exile until he learns he has a fiancée—a deceptive, clever, and utterly intriguing woman he’s never met. Miss Danvers will now learn the consequences of engaging herself to the beast, for Alexander is determined to make her his. Soon, they are involved in a chase, a clash of wills, and though he once vowed to never love again, he burns for the enchanting Miss Danvers. And denying his heart may cost him an exquisite love that happens only once in a lifetime.

My Darling Duke:

I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this one. I hadn’t heard too many things about Stacy Reid, but she had been on my tbr for a little while. And then I started reading this one and couldn’t stop. My Darling Duke was such a fantastic historical romance that hit all the right spots.  I also adored the fact that also has disability representation!

My Darling Duke follows Miss Katherine Danvers who will do anything to save her family, including becoming the fiancée of Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton. But he doesn’t even know it. Alexander hasn’t existed in society for ten years. After an accident that left him both scarred and confined to a wheelchair. Then he learns he is to be wed. So he returns to society to meet this Kitty Danvers.

I seriously loved this book and I was not expecting to love it as much as I did. I knew going in that the plot sounded like something I would enjoy, and there is disability rep so that already had my attention. From the start, I adored the characters both Kitty and Alexander was just fantastic. Totally different from one other but they fit each other so well.

Kitty was such a light throughout the book, she would do anything for her family even if it meant that it would hurt herself. But I also loved how brave she was. Alexander was rough and moody, but as the novel went on the reader can see his gentler side.

I think the disability rep was really well executed in My Darling Duke. Especially for a historical romance.  It was fantastic to see and I loved that he got to see both the struggles with living with a disability, but also the highlights. And that life isn’t just about it. Alexander was both physically and mentally scarred and Kitty doesn’t fix him. But she helps him on the path of healing himself.

Overall, I loved reading My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid. It was fantastic and a great introduction not into this world but into Stacy Reid, who I will be reading again soon. Kitty and Alexander were adorable and perfect together and I loved seeing them fall in love. This is a fantastic historical romance. And I think you should pick it up for sure.

Her Wicked Marquess (Sinful Wallflowers #2) by Stacy Reid

Pages: 383
Publish date: December 29th 2020
Publisher: Entangled: Amara
ISBN: 9781682815199
Purchase: Book Depository – Amazon UK – Amazon US – Amazon AU

Miss Maryann Fitzwilliam is too witty and bookish for her own good. No gentleman of the ton will marry her, so her parents arrange for her to wed a man old enough to be her father. But Maryann is ready to use those wits to turn herself into a sinful wallflower.

When the scandal sheet reports a sighting of Nicolas St. Ives, the Marquess of Rothbury, climbing out the chamber windows of a house party, Maryann does the unthinkable. She anonymously claims that the bedchamber belonged to none other than Miss Fitzwilliam, tarnishing her own reputation—and chances of the dastardly union her family secured for her. Now she just needs to convince the marquess to keep his silence.

Turns out Nicolas allows for the scandal to perpetuate for his own reasons… But when Maryann’s parents hold fast to their arranged marriage plan, it’ll take a scandal of epic proportions for these two to get out of this together.

Her Wicked Marquess :

After finishing My Darling Duke I know that I had to start on the second book as soon as I could and I’m so glad that I did. This was a blast to read and while in the same world as My Darling Duke, it had a different tone and that was really great to see.

Her Wicked Marquess follows Miss Maryann Fitzwilliam, whose parents want her to marry someone more than twice her age. But Maryann has a plan. When it’s reported that Nicolas St. Ives is seen climbing out of chamber windows, Maryann admits it’s hers. With her reputation now tarnished, she hopes her parents while let this marriage go. But it’s not always that easy.

I adored Maryann and Nicolas together. They were serieusly fansastic togehter. I was laughing and cheering for them the whole book. I loved the banter, the connection and everything else between these two and I loved seeing them together. It didn’t really matter if it was a romantic scene or not. They were just fantastic on the page.

Maryann was a fantastic female protagonist. I loved her so much. She knew that she didn’t want her parents to decide who she married and she stood by that. Maryann stood up for herself. She was prepared to ruin herself. I also love that she gave Nicolas a run for his money it was fantastic. Nicolas was also fantastic. He was hard to love at first, but it didn’t take me long for me to fall in love with him.

I think Her Wicked Marquess was the perfect sequel to My Darling Duke. While you don’t have to read the first book to understand the book. I highly recommend that you do. I love how friendships are explored in both of them and I can’t wait for book three.

Overall, I loved Her Wicked Marquess as much as the first book. The romance was clever and smart. While the characters were intriguing and had fantastic banter. The romance was spot on. It was sexy and innocent at the same time, and I loved seeing Maryann and Nicolas fall for one another. It was just a fantastic read and a perfect sequel.

And that is it for this post. If you couldn’t tell, I loved both of these books and think you should pick this series up for sure. Also a little while ago I had the lovely chance to interview Stacy Reid where we talked all about romance and more. You can check out the interview now.

Author Interview: Stacy Reid | Romance Thursdays

Feb 4, 2021

This week on Romance Thursdays I had the chance to interview Stacy Reid. If you haven’t checked out the rest of my interviews in this series be sure to and see what other romance authors have to say. Check out last weeks interview with Candace Harper were we talked about writing LGBTQIA+ romance books are more.

Romance Thursdays is a feature that spotlights romance authors to highlight how amazing the romance writing community is. Each week I’m will be interviewing a different romance author from across subgenres as well as both traditionally and self-published. I want to share their experience writing romance and why they love it so much. While also focusing on their writing and books.

Stacy Reid is the author of the Wedded by Scandal series, The Amagarians series, her newest series Sinful Wallflowers and more. You can check out her backlist now.

Hi Stacy, and welcome to Angel Reads. For those that haven’t read anything by you yet. Tell us a little about yourself and your books?

Thank you for having me! I write sensual and sometimes very hot historical and paranormal romance. I live half of each year in Jamaica and the next half in Canada! I married my high school sweetheart; And I love Chinese historical romance dramas and ice cream. Hate snakes.

My most recent series is the Sinful Wallflowers, which features two of my favorite books I have written to date, My Darling Duke and Her Wicked Marquess. The Sinful Wallflowers follow six friends who are tired of being overlooked, so they decided to grab life with both hands and in the process finding their always and forever type of love.

Why did you start writing romance novels? Is there anything in particular that drew you to it over other genres?

My first set of books were Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, and Hardy Boys. I devoured these from age 8 onward, and then at 12, I picked up a book called The Flame and the Flower and started my lovely relationship with romance novels. Writing happily ever after is simply a part of me. I cannot imagine crafting a story without an emotionally satisfying ending.

You mostly write historical romances and paranormal romances which can be quite different from each other. Do you have different ways of writing them? Do you feel more comfortable writing one over the other?

They are quite different, but I love writing both so very much! I must give myself space between projects or find that my style bleeds into each other. Even though it is my HistRom that is normally affected. My hero/heroine/situations tend to feel more…powerful/edgy if I am not careful to give myself breathing room when switching subgenres. I also have more creative freedom when I write paranormal romance, and because of that, it feels more fun.

What is your favourite thing about romance as a genre? Why do you like reading and writing it?

I love that I can go into a story trusting that I will feel good at the end. I enjoy the journey of seeing or more like feeling two people falling in love. I’ve read a thousand romance books, and every book felt different and filled me with the same anticipation of chasing to the end to find out how the characters found their HEA.

What are some of your favourite tropes that you like reading and writing in the romance genre?

Enemies to lovers, revenge, opposite attracts, best friends to lovers, and taboo (stepbrother, age gap.) The genres I enjoy reading in are also the ones I write. 😊

Who are some of your favourite romance authors? Who inspired you to write?

I grew up reading Lisa Kleypas, Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood, Lora Leigh, Nalini Singh, and Kresley Cole. To date, they are my favorite authors. Though I loved these authors, and as a child dabbled with writing, my husband inspired me to write. His steadfast encouragement, support, excitement, and belief in me had an amazing impact on me taking up the pen (laptop) and giving a voice to the dreams in my heart.

What are some ways that you think aspiring romance writers can find their way and spot in the genre?

I think a really good way is to read what is selling in the genre to understand the trope/style/ readers are enjoying. This is not to say write like this; knowing the kind of story readers are demanding is a plus and might spark the creative juice. And not just to read what is a hot seller now, but what were the top sellers last year, and the year before that, or even ten years ago? Read them for fun but to also analyse what made them outstanding. Do not be afraid to connect with established authors. Many I know are amazing and will give great advice or point you in the right direction to get that advice if they cannot help.

What are some of the ways that you think we can start overcoming the stigma of romance novels?

I have experienced people calling what I do trash/mommy-porn to my face and in their reviews. There were times I froze at the shock of their ridicule, and there were other times I had a scathing reply. Even recently, a close friend laughed rather mockingly at my work, and then could not provide an explanation for her reaction. She blustered and mumbled and even seemed angry that I would put her on the spot. I have asked many other people who tried to dismiss my career the reason for their distaste, and their main comeback is that romance books are fluffy with little substance. The most amazing thing is none of these people had read a romance book!

I think a part of the fix is to get society to celebrate romance more, and that should start with us lovers of the genre speaking out more boldly/proudly that we read and write romance. I have met readers who are afraid to admit they read romance because they are fearful of being shamed for it, and I have also met authors with family members who have no idea what they do. Even at times, I am purposely vague about my genre if I sense the person I am speaking with might be unflattering. It is easier said than done, but one of the first steps is to push aside all discomfort (if they exist) and be more candid with our love of the genre rendering those bullies’ negative and unjust criticism to ash.

Our outspoken celebration and love for happy ever afters might invite more curious fascination than existing stigma.

Thank you so much for coming by Angel Reads. It was lovely having you here. And I can’t wait to read more of your books!

Thank you for having me!

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I onl Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I only ended up reading 3 books in. 3 pretty fun books but one of my slowest readings months in a while.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
