More of My Lowest Rated Reads

More of My Lowest Rated Reads

May 15, 2020 Posted by angelreads Discussions No Comments

A couple of weeks ago I shared some of my lowest-rated reads. And I thought it was time to share some more. Like I said in that post, most of the time I’m a picky reader. But there are times when I pick up a book without knowing too much about it, or I think it’s for me and then I’m wrong. I do want to say that these books weren’t for me. There might be people out there that love them. However, it’s not something for me.

There is a mix of romance, YA and fantasy here, which is mostly what I do read. I do find that they are the most up and downs as well. There are some fantastic books and then there are some horrible ones. Today I share the ones that are not so good. Like always these are in order.

Pawns in the Bishop’s Game (Checkmate #1) by Emilia Finn: I spoke about this one in this weeks TTT. But this one just wasn’t for me. I didn’t click with the characters, the writing or the plot. Nothing really clicked for me and it felt like the characters were just on the page. They didn’t have any depth or arc from what I did read. And as I said in my TTT post there is also the confusion of if it ends a series or if it starts a new series.

Kane (Alexander Shifter Brothers #1) by Selina Coffey: I read this when I wanted to read more paranormal/urban fantasy romance. And I made a mistake. I didn’t like the world or any of the characters and everything felt flat. I actually DNF’d this one, I did get about 50% in but I could not go any farther. If you have any recommendations for shapeshifter/werewolf romances please let me know.

Defending Morgan (Mountain Mercenaries #3) by Susan Stoker: I requested this one for review because it sounded like something that I would have loved. It’s the romance suspense that I’ve enjoyed before. But this one let me down. The characters were bland, the romance was way too quick. And I didn’t enjoy the writing style. I liked the concept of the novel. But everything just feels flat to me. I also have no idea what I kept on reading.

Breakaway (Corrigan Falls Raiders #4) by Cate Cameron: You know me. I love my sports romance. I especially like sports young adult romance. On paper, I should have loved this one. It’s an ice hockey book. But, it all just fell flat for me. The romance was way too quick. And I had no connection with the characters or any of the storyline. I was also really looking forward to it. This was another DNF for me.

Shadows (Dark Touch #1) by Amy Meredith: This is one of the first books that I didn’t enjoy and gave 1 star since I began blogging. I didn’t like the way it was written, and it was full of short sentences that made it very abrupt. The characters were bland, and the plot wasn’t great. I felt that this was written for a young market but had themes for those that are older.

Misadventures of the First Daughter (Misadventures, #3) by Meredith Wild and Mia Michelle: This is one of the first misadventures books that I read and it wasn’t for me. I felt that the characters had no substance. The romance was too quick and everything felt flat. It sounded like something that I thought I would love and then I didn’t. I don’t know if I’m going to read any more of this “series,” but if someone I like does write something I might.

The Proposition (Nights Series #6) by A.M. Salinger: This one was another review book that I picked up. And it just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t connect with the characters as well as the plot. It just wasn’t my type of book.

And that is it for this post! What are some of the books that you have given low ratings too? Do we share any that is the same? Let me know if you would like to see some of my highest rated reads? Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
