Romance Recs: Dark Romances

Romance Recs: Dark Romances

Nov 7, 2021

I haven’t done one of these posts in a while. Now that I’ve read more and more dark romances, I thought it would be the perfect time for me to share some recommendations. If you haven’t check out the rest of my romance recs series – you can right here.

Dark romances aren’t for everyone. They just aren’t. And honestly, I didn’t really start reading them until sometime last year. I’ve read a lot of MC, but they have been only semi-dark. But the books that I am sharing with you today are dark. They are different levels of dark, but they aren’t easy reads. Because of this, all of these books have major trigger warnings.

While most books have their own trigger and content warnings, what these books include are much darker and harder to read at times. So please check the trigger warning for each book before you proceed. Like always these are in no order.

7th Circle (Hades #1) by Tate James: No surprise that this one has made it to my list. I just recently finished reading this series and I think I like it even more than Madison Kate. I found this one a lot darker though. Everything is a lot harsher and way more intense. Trigger and content warnings Include abuse, gun violence, sexual assault and r*pe, torture and more.

Dangerous Temptation by Giana Darling: This is a recent read of mine – you can read my full review now if you would like. And while this one isn’t as dark as some of the other books on this list. It has many dark elements and have a feeling that the second book is going to be much more intense. Triggers and content warnings include; death of parents, criminal activities, gun violence, age gap, taboo romance, child abuse off the page and more. My full review of this one is now up.

Steps (Finding Their Muse #1) by Bea Paige: This one I feel is the darkest of the Bea Paige books that I have read so far – however, I know that her newest series is also pretty dark. I really enjoyed the concept of this one a lot. It was full of mystery, but also the romance was really intriguing. This does include a reverse harem. Trigger and content warnings include; death, talks of self-harm, PTSD, depression and dark themes.

Havoc at Prescott High (The Havoc Boys #1) by C.M. Stunich: This one is a dark bully reverse harem romance set in high school. It’s intense and a lot of things happen, but it’s also addicting and I could not put it down. There are a lot of trigger and content warnings for this one. Some of these include; gun violence, death, sexual assault, physical violence and more.

Scars (The Triad #1) by Dana Isaly: This is a book and author that I discovered this year and I’ve now read two books from Dana and I’m about to start a third. This is a dark reverse harem that includes kidnapping and the triad. I ended up reading this in a few hours because I could not put it down and now I’m super excited for the rest of the books in this series. Trigger and content warnings include: kidnapping, violence, triad, death, torture, child abuse off the page and more

Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight: I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. And while it’s not the best written or has the best plot. It’s full of high intensity and I couldn’t stop reading it. This is again a dark reverse harem romance that includes kidnapping. Trigger and Content Warnings that include: references of abuse/assault, violence, kidnapping, knife play dubious activities. You can check out my full review here.

And there we go. Those are just some of the dark romances that I recommend. Have you read any of these? What did you think of them? Are you planning on reading them? Have you read any dark romances? What do you recommend? Let’s Chat!

A Good Reading Month | October Wrap Up

A Good Reading Month | October Wrap Up

Nov 4, 2021

It’s wrap-up time. Today I’m sharing with you all the books that I read in October. It was a pretty good month. After a slow end to September, I really wanted to pick up my reading. I read a range of books this month, but again mostly romances. Nevertheless, I’m having so much this year just reading what I want and not really caring too much.

I read a lot more paranormal/fantasy romance this month – which has seriously been fantastic. I have forgotten how much I do love it. Also, I tried some new-to-me authors and some new books from authors that I have loved. But enough of all this chatter, let’s get right into it. As always these are in no order.

Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Vict Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Victoria Wilder’s Bourbon Boys series, and as soon as I heard she was writing a new series, around whiskey and women. Well, hell year. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but after a few chapters, I was hooked.

Wyn is hiding, hiding from everyone, even when she is there. She is hiding behind so much, and damn, I don’t blame her. We don’t know everything from the start, but we start piecing things together, and my heart broke. And I was terrified for her. But she is a Crowne woman, and that means something.

We’ve met Julian before, and while he intrigued me before, I am invested now. He is charming, secretive in the best way and will do anything at this point for Wyn. But he is also lost, and somehow he finds his way to Rumour and back into Wyn’s life.

The romance is hot and steamy and everything that you want. The tension and chemistry in this one is high. Neither Wyn nor Julian wants to really give in or give up on one another, but a lot is standing in their way, honestly, mainly themselves. I just sat there giggling half the time because they are swoon-worthy.

I would say this is the darkest Victoria Wilder book I’ve read, so double-check those trigger warnings before jumping in because there is a lot that happens. And I don’t think it’s going to die down any time soon because these Crowne women are badass, and I know things are only just getting started.

Overall, Rumors & Whiskey is hot and sexual. The tension is dripping off the page, and then you are thrown into the terror and horrors of Rumour. You don’t know what is going to happen next, you don’t know who to trust, and there are so many more secrets that have yet to be revealed. I know I am ready for more. Are you?

Thank you to @atriabooksaus for an earc of Rumors & Whiskey 🥃. I’m in love.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!
