Authors That I Think Can Become My Favourites

Authors That I Think Can Become My Favourites

Sep 11, 2020

I’ve been reading a lot of new authors and books this year and I thought it would be fun to share the authors that I think could become my favourites. From YA authors to romance, this mix of authors I’ve loved the books that I have already picked up and expect I will do it for more books to come. Anyway, let’s get into it. Like always these are in no order.

Elizabeth Acevedo: I recently just finished With The Fire on High and adored it. It’s brilliant. Then there is The Poet X which was a 5 star read for me. Both of the books that I have read are high on my favourites list. They are beautifully written, her voice is incredible and I can’t wait to read more from her. I’ll be reading Clap When You Land in the next week and I expect to love it just as much.

Chloe Liese: I recently picked up two of Chloe’s books and adored them both. I love that they include a range of disabilities. I love seeing in it general, but seeing it in books that I also love reading is pretty amazing. The romances were both fantastic, all the character were such a pleasure and I can’t wait to read more. You can check out my review of Only When It’s Us now.

Beverly Jenkins: I’ve now read 3 books from Jenkins and adored each one. They have made me smile, laugh and cry. They have kept me hooked right from the start. I just want to keep on reading. I can’t wait to read more of her backlist. You can check out my review of Rebel, Through the Storm and Winds of the Storm.

Sarah MacLean: I think it’s no surprise that Sarah MacLean is on my list. I just feel in love with her characters, her romances and everything else. I’m currently reading Brazen and the Beast and loving it so much. I can’t wait to read other books from her and see how it goes.

Nalini Singh: I don’t think it’s a surprise that Nailia has hopped onto this list. I recently just picked up the first two books in the Psy-Changeling series and immediately bought the next 3. I loved them both so much. The world is fantastic, the characters are so intriguing and did I mention leopard cubs. I can’t deal.

Sabrina Jeffries: Again I don’t think anyone will be surprised that Sabrina has made it onto my list. But I do want to read other books from different series from her. In saying that I loved all the books I’ve currently read from her and have a few already picked out to read next.

And that is it for this post! I’m so excited to read more books from these authors and see if I end up being right. Have you read anything from these authors? What did you think of them? Are you planning on reading more? Nevertheless, let’s chat!

Latest Books Added To My Goodreads TBR #4

Latest Books Added To My Goodreads TBR #4

Sep 9, 2020

I love sharing the latest books added to my Goodreads TBR and I thought it was time to do it again. I use my Goodreads tbr, not for books that I own, but for books that have caught my eye. It’s a way for me to keep track of the books that I want to read.

So today I’m sharing the latest books I’ve added to this tbr. There are books that have yet to be released. While some are older releases. It’s just mash of books. Like always these are in no order.

Sin and Ink (Sweetest Taboo #1) by Naima Simone: Earlier this week I read a few of Naima’s books and enjoyed them quite a book and this series of hers caught my eye. So I’ve added it to my tbr to hopefully pick up soon. I don’t know a whole lot about the book. However, it sounds interesting and intriguing.

That Scandalous Summer (Rules for the Reckless #1) by Meredith Duran: A Goodreads friend read this one and enjoyed it quite a bit and it sounds like something that I would love. I’m always looking for new historical romacne authors.

Here to Stay by Adriana Herrera: Nick recently read it and seemed to enjoy it. This one sounds like it’s going to be just a good read. One that will be fun and enjoyable and just make me happy. And I need that sometimes.

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston: I have no idea why this wasn’t on my tbr before. You all know how much I love Red, White and Royal Blue. And this one sounds like it’s going to be even better. Plus look at that cover!

100 Days of Sunlight by Abbie Emmons: I had seen this book pop up here and there for a while now. But I never checked it out. As soon as I read the synopsis I added it to my TBR. It has disability rep and I’m so excited about that.

DWD (The Fallen Men #6) by Giana Darling: This doesn’t even have a title. We don’t even know who it’s about. But I’m so excited to continue with this series. Things are starting to get interesting and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep #1) by Mira Grant: This isn’t normally my thing, but I’m intrigued by the synopsis and the reviews I have been seeing lately. It might be the perfect book to pick up next month.

And those are some of the latest books I’ve added to my Goodreads TBR. Have you read any of them? Are they on your tbr or wish list? Let’s Chat!

Books I Wish Were Around When I Was Younger

Books I Wish Were Around When I Was Younger

Sep 8, 2020

This week I share the books that I wish were around when I was younger. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I’ve been constantly reading for a long time now. I read a lot when I was younger, but from the age of about 12, I read nearly every day. Like I do now. But books have changed over time, so today I’m sharing the books that I wish I had around when I was younger.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: There should be no surprise that that has made my list. It’s one of my favourite books of all time and I recommend it to anyone and everyone. It’s also such an important book. I believe that if I read this when I was in my early teens it would have had such a big impact of my life. It would have driven me a whole lot more.

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo: I just finished this one and it was fantastic. It’s honest and real. It’s heartbreaking at times but it’s also uplighting. This would have packed such a punch if I read it a couple of years ago. I know I would have fallen just as love with it as I am now.

This is How We Change the Ending by Vikki Wakefield: This book made me feel so many things from anger to hope. From sadness to being proud. This is just a poignant story, that it would have hit home if I was able to read it when I was 15/16 for sure.

Sick Kids in Love by Hannah Moskowitz: Being able to read about disability so easy would have been fantastic when I was younger. Especially when my health was changing a lot and I was in and out of the hospital. I like this book a lot and it looks at chronic illness is such an honest and real way.

Dear Martin (Dear Martin #1) by Nic Stone: While this is an emotional read and would have hit me right in the guts. But it’s also an incredible read that is impactful and powerful. It explored the injustices of the world and why the #BlackLivesMatter movement is so important to understand.

What I Like About Me by Jenna Guillaume: This is another one that I enjoyed reading, but if I read it, even a few years ago when I was younger. It would have hit differently. It would have been something that been something that I absorbed a lot.

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo: I know I have already included one of her books. But I want to include this one for another reason. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I got into poetry and spoken world more. But if I read this one in my teens, I would have discovered it earlier – and a whole other band of books.

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde: This is another one that looks at mental health in an honest and real way. But it also looks at being a geek and how it’s not a bad thing. It’s a positive light. It’s about being who you are and not letting anyone tell you aren’t you.  I was already out of high school a few years before this one came out and a little earlier would have been amazing.

How It Feels to Float by Helena Fox: This one looks at mental health in an honest and real way. It would have been something that I would have loved to read when I was younger. Reading fiction books that discuss mental health in the way that How It Feels To Float does is rare.

And that is it for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday! Have you read any of these books? What do you think of my list? Let’s Chat!

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I onl Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I only ended up reading 3 books in. 3 pretty fun books but one of my slowest readings months in a while.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
