Last 5 Books That I Have Read

Last 5 Books That I Have Read

Jun 23, 2017

Last 5 Books I've Read BannerToday I thought I would share the last five books that I have read. Reading was a little slow in the month of May. I just finished from uni, starting my new job at a bookstore and needed a good great. I think I read maybe one book in those weeks. But the last couple of weeks I’ve gotten back into the reading groove. So here are the last five books that I have read.

So here are the last five books that I have read. These are in order from the latest read. You can follow me on Goodreads to keep updated with what I am reading.

One Small Step…: A #LoveOzYA  Short Story by Amie Kaufman: I’ve started to slowly read Begin, End, Begin: A #LoveOzYA Anthology. And one story in and I am already loving it. I’ve read a couple of books already by Amie Kaufman and this one just took me right in. I’ll be reviewing the whole anthology soon, so keep your eye on it. What is your favourite story from the anthology?

Last Books Read - LoveOzYA

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare: I am doing a re-read with Ely from Tea and Titles and though we are a little behind, I was finally about to read Clockwork Prince and just feel in love again. Gosh, I seriously forgot how much I love this trilogy. Check out my review with Ely on Clockwork Angel.

Her Outback Cowboy by Annie Seaton:  I find that a contemporary novel is always great for getting out of a reading slump and while I didn’t love this one. It did help me get straight back into reading. It was a quick read, and it’s set in Australia so that was a plus | Review.

Into Your Arms by Chelsea M. Cameron:  While this was another disappointing read, I pushed through it and like Her Outback Cowboy it started to get me out of a reading slump. It’s was again a quick read that I cruised through in a couple of hours.

Last 5 Reads - Lord of Shadows

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare:  This was the source of my reading slump – but not in a bad way.  It was just so good that I all I did was think about it. I had so many thoughts going through my head that I couldn’t stop thinking about. And there are still heaps going through my mind, that I just want to talk with everyone about it | Review.

And that is it! What are the books that you last read? Do we share any that is the same? What do you do to get out of a reading slump? What is the book that you are planning to read next? Let’s Chat!

I love talking so talk to me over on my twitter @angel_reads, Facebook, instagram, tumblr and Goodreads. You can also follow Angel Reads on Bloglovin and via email (in the sidebar).

Directed By: Michael Goi
Watch: Freeform (US) – Netflix (Worldwide)
Episode Reviews: Season 1 | Season 2

Those of Demon Blood:

This episode was somewhat intense. I had no idea what was going to happen next and it kept me watching with my eyes peeled the whole episode. Shadowhunters are turning up dead, and not just dead killed by downworlders, stripped of their marks. They take it all away.

However, the shadowhunters are ready to fight back and they will do anything to save their people. Inquisitor Herondale has taken Jace under her wing as her grandson and expects him to do everything that she says.

Meanwhile, the tension starts to rise between shadowhunters and downworlders and if they don’t come together soon – all hell is going to break lose.

Inquisitor Herondale

We really start to see more of Inquisitor Herondale in Those of Demon Blood and wow. It’s not that she is evil, but she does what she thinks needs to be done. And she doesn’t care much for downworlders.

We see quite a few people stand up for her in this episode including, Alec and Clary. And while they don’t agree on much, they can relate to this situation together. They are both dating downworlders.

It was really nice to see Alec stand up for Magnus and same with Clary. It’s nice to see that yes Shadowhunters and Downworlders can be on the same side.

Malec

We really get to see the tension between Alex and Magnus grow in Those of Demon Blood. While I wasn’t expecting this so early in the series, I knew it was going to happen eventually. The audience is starting to see the different lives of Shadowhunters and Warlocks and how hard it is to be together.

My heart broke for them both. But at times  I wanted to knock some sense into Magnus. I think that he forgets, that while he doesn’t have to report to someone, Alec does. He can’t do what he wants, he has to follow the Clave – he is a shadowhunter.

I feel like the tension between these two is going to grow, throughout the rest of the season.

Simon and Clary

While I do like and think they are cute together, I really want to break up soon – please. I need my Clary and Jace okay.

Downworlders

We really get to see some of the downworlders true colours in Those of Demon Blood. We do see that some are evil and don’t want Shadowhunters around. But we also see what they go through because of what they are.

Jace

The audience is able to see a side of Jace that we haven’t really before. He really starts to struggle with the Herondale name. He has these people to live up to and he doesn’t want to tread on any toes. He has just found out that he has a blood relative and he would do anything for her, even if it means going against what he believes.

Overall

I enjoyed Those of Demon Blood. It wasn’t my favourite episode, but I still did really enjoy it. It’s starting to open a lot of doors and I am really excited to see where it does take us. I am also really happy we are starting to get Izzy back, I cannot wait for her to be even more kissass.

Have you watched this week’s episode? What did you think? Are you planning on watching it? Nevertheless, what do you think is going to happen next?

Don’t forget to check out my Lord of Shadows review. However, it was heartbreaking and epic all at the same time.

Top Ten Series That I Need To Start Reading

Top Ten Series That I Need To Start Reading

Jun 20, 2017

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that members at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone join as you please. This week’s topic is Top Ten Series That I Need To Start.

There are so many series that I want to start reading, too many to count really, but here are some that I want to hopefully read in the next year. Like always these are in no order.

TTT Series 1

The Diviners by Libba Bray: This series has been on my TBR for such a long time. I am highly certain that I am going to like it. I don’t even know why I haven’t picked it up. It’s historical fiction and paranormal – a lot of things that I like there.

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon: I am so ashamed that I haven’t read this series – you have no idea. I meet Samantha when The Bone Season came out and she was here for promo. And I still haven’t read it. I don’t even have an excuse.

Monsters of Verity by Victoria Schwab: I have just recently read the first 2 books in the Shades of Magic trilogy and loved it. So I am slowly trying to make it through Victoria’s other series and I am so excited. Think this one is the next on my list.

TTT Series 2

The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff: A lot of my friends are going to hate me for this one, but I really have to be in the mood for high fantasy, especially if it’s more on the adult side. And I just never have been. In saying that I will get to this series, one day.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein: If you have been here for a while you might that that I love historical fiction, especially when it has to do with wars and conflicts that are similar. Earlier this year I read The Peral Thief and while I didn’t love it, I cannot wait to read the Code Name Verity duology.

Goddess Test by Aimee Carter: It is based on mythology, need I say more.  I love anything and everything to do with mythology and I’ve had this series sitting on my shelf for quite some time now. I really hope that I get a chance to read it soon.

TTT Series 3

The Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni: Most people I know that have read this series have really enjoyed it. Including my younger cousin that keeps on begging me to read it. I do have the first book, so I will try soon.

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White: After reading And I Darken and Now I Rise, I knew that I needed to read some more books from Kiersten White. And this series seems like it’s right down my lane.

Legend by Marie Lu: This series has been on my TBR for quite some time now and I will get to it soon, hopefully by the end of the year. It just seems like a series that I can fly through and really enjoy.

TTT Series 4

Study Series by Maria V. Snyder: Again another series that I have wanted to read for such a long time, but I have just never had the chance to pick it up. I really want to though, I think I would really enjoy it.

And that is it for this week! What series do you want to dig into? Have you read any of the series above? Let’s Chat!

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
