Last Five Reads | September 2023

Sep 21, 2023

I haven’t done one of these in a while, and I thought it would be the perfect time to update you on what I’ve been reading lately. This September I’ve been trying to read as many books of my physical TBR as I can. I’ve been doing pretty well so far, but I have a few strays, which I am totally okay with.

But today is all about the latest books I’ve read. The last week and a half my reading as been a little on the slower side, and I did do 2 rereads. But I kind of needed it, and I’ve read a range of different books that I’ve really enjoyed. So let’s go, here are my last five reads.

Reclaim: Cedar Valley Bears (Small Town Packs) by Cassie Laelyn: I read the first book in this series earlier this year and enjoyed it quite a bit. They are really quick reads, about 200 pages. But they are fun, emotional, high-intensity and have some good smut. I really liked that we got to bear shifters in this one. It’s a little different. Not too much more to say, other than that I had a great time.

Awaken: Wolves of Timber Falls (Small Town Packs) by Cassie Laelyn: I ended up moving right into the last book in this series. And we are back with the wolves this time. There was a forbidden romance between a wolf and a hunter. It was hot and sexy. And there were a lot of things going on. But nothing felt overwhelming. It was a great read.

Lola & the Millionaires: Part One and Two (Sweet Omegaverse, #2/#3) by Kathryn Moon: This was my reread of the month. I wasn’t in the best space to read. So re-reading one of my favourite books of all time was pretty perfect. I just needed a book to get my mind out of things but also keep it going. I love this omegaverse and these are just some of my favourite characters. If you are looking for an omegaverse to read. This is your girl.

String Me Along (Learning to Love Series) by Lilian T. James: Again I read the first book in this interconnected series earlier in the year and enjoyed it. So I wanted to pick this one up as well. I had a great time. It’s an easy contemporary read, where there isn’t much happening but still keeps you entertained. I will be reading more from Lilian for sure.

A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor (Tempting Monsters, #1) by Kathryn Moon: As you can already tell, I really enjoy Kathryn Moon. And this has been on my TBR for a little while now. This book is pure smut and I loved it. I didn’t really need it to be much more. There is a little plot. But it has a lot to do with Esther and her monsters. And it was great. I loved it.

And there we go. Those are some of my latest reads. What have you read recently? What did you think of them? Have you read anything from my latest today? Let’s chat!

Last 5 Reads | April 2023

Apr 30, 2023

I know it’s been a little while since I’ve shared a post but the past 2 weeks have been a little busy for me. Last weekend I went to RARE Melbourne and had a fantastic time. And this week I’ve been right back into work. So today I thought I would do something a little easy and share my last 5 reads.

I’ve been reading a strange batch of books this month. And I kind of love it. It’s a whole heap of different things. From new series to some re-reads and more. Because I did binge-read some series, I did combine them as one read. Just so I didn’t have a whole series for this post alone.

So let’s get right into it. Here are my last 5 reads and a little of what I thought of them. As always these are in no order.

Knot Your Damn Omega by Devyn Sinclair: This is one that I read just before RARE and I loved it. I liked it so much that I went and not only bought a copy of this but a few more books from Devynn at RARE. I am really enjoying Omegaverese romances more and more. And this one was really fun and I can’t wait to read more from Devyn. If you are looking for a book to get into Omegaverse this one is a good place to start.

Hades #1-#4 by Tate James: I was just in the mood for a re-read of this series recently and I had a great time doing it. I think this is one of my favourites of Tates so far and it has everything that I like. It’s a little dark, dangerous, a why choose. It’s a good combo for me. And the re-read was a fantastic way for me to be reading when I don’t know what I feel like.

The Royals of Forsyth University #4-#6 by Angel Lawson and Samantha Rue: I read the first 3 books in this series at the start of the month and I knew I wanted to pick the rest up. And let me tell you, I love the Dukes way more than I did the Lords. I didn’t hate the Lord’s books, but the Duke’s stories were just so much more interesting and I kinda loved that. I am excited for the next batch of books as well. This is quite dark, why choose romance that has a lot of questionable things happen. But if you like that kind of thing, this series is great.

Highest Bidder (Salacious Players Club, #5) by Sara Cate: I’ve been very hesitant to pick this one up after the reviews I had seen floating around. But I took the plunge and while it’s not my favourite in the series. I did enjoy it. However, I did feel that the romance lacked a little. I wanted more from them and I just didn’t get it. In all the other books in the series, I’ve felt the romance, the love. But here I don’t even know. It just wasn’t fully there for me. I’m very excited about the last book. And I am very intrigued to see what happens here.

Pucking Ever After: Volume 1 by Emily Rath: This is a collection of extended epilogues from Emily Rath’s Jacksonville Rays Hockey Series. And I could not wait to read it. They are short, quick, sweet and spicy and I could not put them down. We get to see the lives of Rachel and her boys after their book and a little bit of what is going on. Their relationships grow, their family grows and they also have some fun. It was good, I liked it. It was a fun read.

Last Five Reads | November 2022

Last Five Reads | November 2022

Nov 10, 2022

It’s been a great start to November which makes me really excited to see what the rest of the month brings. I have had some books I’ve already loved, some books I really haven’t and then others sat in the middle. But today I thought I would share my thoughts on the last books five I’ve read.

Let’s just get right into it. Now I’m writing this post on the 7th, so I may have read a few more books after this. But as of right now these are my last five reads. Please remember to check the individual trigger warnings for each book.

Court of the Vampire Queen by Katee Robert: This has been on my tbr for a little while now. And I finally got around to picking it up. This one is the printed and traditionally published version of Katee’s indie series Bloodline Vampires.

When I heard that this was getting traditionally published, I knew I had to get on it. While this isn’t my favourite of all the books I’ve read from Katee, I still had such a blast reading this poly romance.

It’s sexy and dangerous and I didn’t want to put it down. Right from the start, you know what you are getting into and I loved that. This book isn’t forever one. It’s not fast-paced, and there isn’t a whole lot that happens plot-wise at times. But I still have a great time reading it.

One Last Shot by Julia Connors: I honestly didn’t know what to expect from this book going in. All I know was that I felt like reading an ice hockey romance, and this came up on my tiktok feed.

This is a second chance, marriage on convenience, childhood friends to lovers. And it works. I did want to love this book more than I did, but I just couldn’t. I liked the romance, the plot was pretty good and the writing was just okay.

But things were missing from it. I wanted to see a little bit more of the relationship between our two protagonists. I think it relied on a lot of old feelings and didn’t explore their relationship now. There were gaps in times that I think could have been used to explore their growing closers once more. I still enjoyed it overall, but I didn’t love it.

Dublin Ink (Dublin Ink #1) by Sienna Blake: okay I am going, to be honest with you here. I am not sure why I kept on reading this one. Maybe I thought it would get better, but I ended up more confused.

This is an age-gap, grumpy, angsty romance. I think. It’s a little confusing. I wasn’t a massive fan of the age gap in this one. Our female protagonist is under 18 and it just didn’t feel right.

I didn’t basically like any of the characters, but I also think we didn’t get to know them a whole lot. A lot was going on and at times I was just confused. It felt very jumpy. This book was just not for me.

Power Plays & Straight A’s (CU Hockey #1) by Eden Finley and Saxon James: I’ve read a few Eden Finley books before and when a co-worker told me to pick this up. I couldn’t say no. And while I did enjoy reading this one. I didn’t love it.

The romance was cute, and I really enjoyed our protagonists. But something was stopping me from really loving it.

It’s a MM romance, with a brother’s best friend and ice hockey. Like yes, please. There were so many times that I giggled to myself reading this because I did have such a great time reading it. I am really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Faith & the Dead End Devils (Sweet Omegaverse #8) by Kathryn Moon: Don’t mind me having a little cry over here, over the fact that is the last in this series for now. I started this series with Lola and the Millionaires last year. And this has by far become one of my favourite series.

I adored that we got to back to an MC group here and what happens when omega is thrown into the mix. I liked Faith. She is wild and is experiencing a lot of new things. Throw in alphas and a beta into the mix and things are going to get very interesting.

While this isn’t my favourite in the series, I still really did enjoy it and loved being back in this sweet omegaverse, seeing some old faces. And having a wild ride.

And there we go. Those are my thoughts on my last five reads. Have you read any of these? What did you think of them? Are you planning on reading any of them? What are some of the books that you have read lately? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
