Last Five Reads | September

Sep 18, 2022

I haven’t done an update like this one in a while, and I thought now would be the perfect time to share a reading update with my last five reads. So far this month is tracking way better than the last few reading-wise. Not only in the number of books I’ve been reading but also the books that I am reading, I’ve been enjoying.

So I thought today  I would share my last five reads. I love doing these posts because I don’t just get to update you on what I am reading, but also share my thoughts on the books as well. I’ve been reading a range of romance books the last few weeks and it really shows in the books I’m sharing with you today. So let’s get into it. As always these are in no order. These are my last five reads.

Mad Man (Necessary Evils #5) by Onley James: I’ve been making my way through this series over the last few months and I’m nearly caught up with the newest book. While this wasn’t my favourite in the series. I still had such a fantastic time reading it.

This series won’t be for everyone. It’s about psychopaths that kill. And while they are murdering horrible people, it’s still a grey area. And I love it. It’s one of my favourite things about the series. The greyness of it all. How these men, are not only killers but psychopaths. And then they happened to fall in love.

The romance of this one was one of the more interesting ones and unique but it’s also pretty intense. I am intrigued to see where this series is taken and I can’t wait to read more. The last few books are going to be intense.

There are major trigger warnings for this book that include; murder, death, sexual assault, torture, graphic sex scenes and more. Please check all trigger warnings before diving in.

Eyes on Me (Salacious Players Club #2) by Sara Cate: This is another series that I started earlier this year. And while I didn’t love the first book I was intrigued enough to continue. And I am glad that I did. I really enjoyed this one a lot. And I’m already onto book three because I needed to know what was happening next.

This is another series that is not going to be for everyone. It features a group of friends that own a sex club and it’s a lot of fun. I love that each book is a little taboo, sexy and hooks your right in.

The romance in this book was so good and I couldn’t stop reading it. I loved seeing our characters fall for one another. And realise that they are falling for one another. It just makes for a fantastic read. There are a few intense moments here and I love that.

A Soul to Keep (Duskwalker Brides #1) by Opal Reyne: This book has been on my tbr for a little while now. And I knew I had to pick it up when I was feeling a fantasy/paranormal read.

While it did take me a while to not only get into the book and imagine our male lead, I was still hooked from the start. It’s a monster romance for sure. So please be aware of that before you read it.

Reia’s freedom for her hometown comes at a price, but she doesn’t know if it’s a good or bad thing. I adored seeing Reia and Orpheus fall for one another. It was little touches and little smiles. And believing in one another and letting each other’s guards down. It was that nice balance of being a slow burn, with a spicy romance.

I’m really excited to read the rest of the series and I cannot wait to see how else fall in love with each other.

Pack’s Promise (Club Heat) by Victoria Kent: I was in the mood for a new omegaverse romance and this one came up on my KU. But it just didn’t do it.

It started off strong, and probably why I did give it 2 stars instead of 1. It was really interesting and I liked the dynamics that were being built. And then it slowly just faded. I can’t pinpoint when it started to fade for me, it just happen slowly.

The romance was okay. But I didn’t feel a massive connection between the characters. It all moved fairly quickly, without much interaction that made me feel that dynamic.

I really did want to like this one. But it didn’t hit the mark and I was left disappointed.

I Like You Like That by Kayla Grosse.: This one caught my eye a few weeks ago when I first saw it pop up on social media. I recently picked it up when I felt like reading a romance with a music star. I never understand my reading habits. But I just go with it.

I had a lot of fun reading this one. It was fun, intense, sexy and made me smile quite a few times. After a falling out our main characters are brought together when Birdie Wilder is in need of protection.

Things are very intense at the start. Birdie and Liam didn’t leave their past friendship on great terms. At first, things are harsh between the pair. But slowly they both let their guards down, and well it’s sexy time then.

And while I did really enjoy this book, I didn’t love it. Still, it’s worth the read.

And there we go. Those are my last five reads and my thoughts on them. What have you read lately? What have you loved? Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Let’s chat!

Last Five Reads | June

Jun 19, 2022

It’s time for another last five reads post. I’m really enjoying doing these types of posts. It’s a great way for me to talk about books that I am reading before I do my monthly wrap-up. But it also lets me go a little more in-depth than I normally would.

So let’s get right into it. I’ve been in a little reading slump recently, but I am feeling like I’m getting out of it. And here are the books that I have read recently that have helped with that.

Kings of Mayhem MC #1-#6 by Penny Dee: I’m putting all these books together because then it would just take up my whole post. But one of the things I do to get out of a reading slump is re-read. And I kept seeing this series pop up on my tiktok read, so I went ahead and re-read them.

It was really nice being back into this world and reading an MC romance. I sometimes forget how much I love reading MC romanes and this one sparked my love for it again.

I really enjoyed this series the first time I read it, and I felt the same when I re-read this month. It’s fun and a little dark, but it’s also emotional as hell and I love that.

I think my favourites have to be Kings of Mayhem, Off Limits and Bull

Kulti by Mariana Zapata: I’ve been wanting to read another Mariana Zapata for a while now and I just felt like a good sports romance. I’ve read quite a few Mariana Zapata now and this has definitely jumped up to one of my favourites.

If you haven’t read a Mariana Zapata be prepared for a slow burn. And this was slow. But it was so good. It was sexy, romantic and a classic Zapata. The romance was really interesting and while I did want a little more angst between them after they bother realised they liked each other, I was still pretty happy.

Overall, I really did enjoy Kulti a lot. I would have also enjoyed it if we were also on his pov. But it’s okay.

Knight’s Legion MC #1-#2 by Naomi Porter: Now that I’m on a MC romance kick, I picked the first books in this series up. And in all honestly, I’m not sure how I feel.

Firstly I wasn’t a massive fan of the writing. It went from feeling childish to all macho man. It was like whiplash. I couldn’t really like Storm, the male protagonist a whole lot. He was so 180. And couldn’t make up his mind. This meant that the story just kept on flipping.

I liked the premise of the book, but I didn’t feel that it was done so great. Again there was just so much in here, and I could not keep up. But the thing is. I want to keep on reading the series, just so I know how all the books turn out. And what happens with everyone else. I’m just not sure what I am going to do.

Three of Hearts (Harpies of a Feather #1) by Lillian Lark: I’ve been wanting to read a Lillian Lark book for a little while now, and I also wanted something quick and short. And this was the perfect book for that.

While I didn’t fall in love with this book. I really did enjoy it. It’s fast-paced, a hot romance and some supernatural creatures that really interesting. Three of Hearts is a romance between a werewolf, a demon and a Harpy. Which I found so interesting and why I picked this book up.

The romance was very fast-paced and while it did move just a little too quickly for what I normally like. The book is under 200 pages. So it’s not bad in that perspective. I liked all three of our protagonists and I enjoyed that we got to see a little bit of each of them. This book was just a lot of fun. And if you are looking for a quick, supernatural romance then pick this up.

Alight (The Firecracker Cousins #1) by A.H. Cunningham: I hadn’t heard about this book until Ely showed me something that featured it. I didn’t know too much about it when I picked it up either, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit.

I’m not a massive contemporary reader. It’s probably the sub-genre that I read the least, but this one was not only fun, but emotional, and I didn’t want to put it down.

The romance in this was a second chance romance and oh I loved it. It was these best friends who no longer talk to one another, who come together again and just. It was also sexy and sweet. I cannot wait to continue reading this series, because I will be doing that for sure.

And there we go. Those are my last five reads as of me writing this post. What have you read recently? did you enjoy them? Let’s Chat!

My Last Five Reads | May

My Last Five Reads | May

May 19, 2022

I’ve really been liking doing these posts the last couple of months, so today we are doing another look at my last five reads. My reading has been so much better lately, especially since I’ve not had a great two months. But I’m finally feeling in the mood and loving reading at the moment.

I also want to note, that I do write these posts a little in advance but not too much. So if you follow me on GoodReads, you might notice that we are a little behind. Anyway, let’s get right into it. Also if I binge read a series I just include it as ‘one book’ for this. Let’s go!

Red Ridge Sinners MC #2-4 by Caitlyn Dare: I’ve put off reading this series until it was completed and I realised a few days ago it finally was. So I read books 2-4 which follows River and her men Diesel, Zach, and Jax. This is an MC romance that is dark, and gritty and I’m really into it. It’s very much a hate/dislike to love romance between River and her men.

There is a dark romance, with quite a few trigger warnings. So before you pick this one up, please just check before you read it.

But if you like those times of romances with love- interests that just aren’t that kind, then pick this up.

Pack Origin (A Blissful Omegaverse #0.5) by Kate King and Jessa Wilder: There isn’t much to say about this one. It’s just under 100 pages but is an excellent introduction to the world that these authors have created.

Pack Origin follows Bliss in an omengaverse world. Living in a foster home with the boys that have always been there for her. She’s a beta, they are alphas but that doesn’t change much between them. Then things start to change. Not just between Bliss and her boys, but within Bliss herself.

I’m not sure when I’m going to start the rest of the series, but I’m excited.

Triple-Duty Bodyguards by Lily Gold: I didn’t know what to expect when I started this book. It sounded intriguing and I wanted a fun read. It’s not a ‘fun’ read per se. I still did enjoy it a lot.

When Briar is confronted with a stranger in her own home, she knows she needs more protection. Bring in the Angels and now Briar doesn’t just have one man to protect her but three.

They are protective, aggressive and will do anything for Briar. It started off making sure she is protected, then it turns into making sure she is also loved.

Lessons in Corruption (The Fallen Men #1) by Giana Darling: This was actually a re-read for me. In my anticipation for the upcoming book in this series. I wanted to do a re-read and just get myself back into the world and timeline.

I really do love this series, and this is the book that kicked it off for me. Please check trigger warnings before jumping into this book and series. This one has an age gap romance with some forbidden territories. I’m so excited about the new book. Ekk.

One Night in Garoureve (The Shifters of Garoureve #1) by Elle M. Drew: I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. But as soon as I started it, I knew I was going to love it and I did.

It’s sexy and hot. But also really addicting. The romance was really interesting and I loved them together. I wish we were able to see a little more of the life after secrets are revealed, however, it’s a series. So I am hoping we see them again soon.

I can’t wait to continue reading the rest of the series. It makes me so excited.

And there we go. Those are the last five books that I’ve read so far this month. As you can see from this post I’ve really enjoyed a lot of my last five reads. What have you read recently? Did you enjoy them? Let’s chat!

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
