February Wrap Up (2016)

February Wrap Up (2016)

February WrapUp

February has been a heck of a ride. I have started back at uni this month and it has been so good. I have a YA class that is taught by an aussie ya author and it’s awesome. It’s everything that I love. I have also done workshopping of my extracts from my WIP in two of my classes and the feedback has been quite good, so I have been feeling better about it recently.

I hope you like the amount of posts that are going up each week – for the most part it has been 3, but sometimes things are just scheduled close together and there are more than 3. Are you guys liking the amount of posts? Next week I am getting my wisdom teeth out so I might be MIA for about a week, depending on how I feel.

In February I also celebrated Angel Reads 4th Birthday – I cannot believe that this year is my 5th year of blogging. I also created a tumblr, where I post/reblog bookish photos.

I read a decent about of books in February so let’s get onto it. I read about 11 books in February.

books read

February

–Summer Skin by Kirsty Eagar | 4 Stars: Summer Skin is not for the faint hearted, be prepared for a sexy, slow burning love full of passion and secrets. Summer Skin deals not only with young men taking advantage of women, but how women can act differently to it. It shows us that people hide behind fronts not only to keep themselves safe, but others as well. Summer Skin is full of empowering young women that take a stand. | Review

–Winter by Marissa Meyer | 4.5 Stars: What a brilliant way to end a series that I adore. It was so good. There were things happening left right and center and I didn’t know what was going to happen next. Winter has all the characters that we all know and love and brings in some new ones; some we hate and some that we might just like. I adored Winter, it was just so beautiful.

–Tragedy Girl by Christine Hurley Deriso | 3 Stars: I liked the first 15% then really didn’t like the rest. The ending was abrupt and everything happened way to fast for my liking. The romance was way to instalove for and it was very wired | Full review coming soon.

read feb 2

–Easy by Tammara Webber |4 Stars:  It highlighted things that people don’t like to talk about, but I think that they need to. I loved Lucas, can he please be mine… Overall Easy was a read that every teen girl and book should read to help them understand that some things aren’t the right things, that love can be found anywhere and being smart isn’t always a bad thing

– Love Me, Love Me Not by Alyxandra Harvey | 3.5 Stars: Overall, I quite enjoyed Love Me, Love Me Not. The protagonists were really enjoyable to read and I did find interesting. The plot was intriguing and very unique, that he has me turning page after page, however I did feel that it lacked in the world building element and had me begging for me. | Review

–The Protected by Claire Zorn | 4 Stars: The Protected is a beautiful, heartbreaking novel that tales a story of a girl who not only has to deal with her sister dying, but memory lost, her family breaking down and the torment of school. The Protected deals with bullying, grief, mental illness and it’s like to really move on.

feb read 3

–The Darkest Corners by Kara Thomas | 4.5 Stars: The Darkest Corners is a mind thriller that had me at the edge of my seat. There was so many twist and turns and I had no idea to believe. I guessed some things and was way off on others. This book kept me thinking and thinking, I could not put it down. Kara Thomas is brilliant. Her writing style is easier to read, but her plot flips your mind. The Darkest Corners is mind-blowing, heartbreaking and shows us that family is not always family, not matter what you believe. | Full Review Coming Soon

–What I Saw by Beck Nicholas |3.5: Overall, What I Saw by Beck Nicholas shows us that sometimes the right thing to do is the hardest thing, that sometimes family isn’t everything and the importance of how a king hit can not only hurt the Victim but everyone else around them | Review

–The Dream Thieves by Maggie Steifvater |3.5 Stars: Okay so I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. I love the characters like a lot, but thew world can be very confusing at times and we are jumping from here to there and just yer.

read feb 4

–How Not To Disappear by Clare Furniss |4 Stars: Hard to get into a first, but the end it was really beautiful. An emotional, gripping read that both, warms your heart and rips it out. | Review coming soon

–The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski | 5 Stars: I am so in love and what a beautiful way to end an amazing series. | Review coming soon.

–The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson | 4.5 Stars: The Unexpected Everything is for every author, book lover and reader alike. It’s a beautiful story of friendship, heartbreak and family. Morgan Matson brings together a beautiful contemporary novel that makes you smile, laugh and cry. | Review coming soon.
–Beyond the Stars by Stacy Wise | 3.5 Stars: I liked the fluffiness and cuteness of Beyond the Stars, I also enjoyed both Jessica and Jack, however the plot and the romance fell flat for me. It had me wishing for more. | Review
–Salt to Sea by Ruta Sepetys | 5 Stars: Beautiful, captivating, extraordinary. Salt to the Sea is a gorgeous novel that brings to light a catastrophe that seems to be forgotten. | Review

jan read 2

– The Next Together by Lauren James | 4 Stars: A heartbreaking story of love that is so strong that it last forever, just through different people all with the same name. It was gorgeous. | Review coming soon.
– My Sister Rosa by Justine Larbalestier | 4 Stars: I am very confused with how I feel about this book. It messed with my brain and still is. I thought it was fantastic but gosh did it frustrate me a lot. I just feel so angry with it. In saying that Justine Larbalestier is brilliant. | Review coming soon.
– You’re Still the One by Rachel Harris | 4 Stars: Typical Rachel Harris that I know and love. | Review coming soon

jan read 3

– Hallowed Ground by Rebecca Yarros | 4 Stars: Hallowed Ground was a beautiful read that intertwined, family both by blood and friendship. Life

So I as you know, I’m still at university and it’s going okay. I am currently sort of looking for a part-time job (something that will hopefully help me get into publishing in the future) but it’s not going that great.

I am also starting to get things ready for my first trip overseas next month. I am so excited I cannot hold anything in at all. I am not buying too much  because I am hoping to buy heaps while away.

How is everything going for you guys?

Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Vict Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Victoria Wilder’s Bourbon Boys series, and as soon as I heard she was writing a new series, around whiskey and women. Well, hell year. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but after a few chapters, I was hooked.

Wyn is hiding, hiding from everyone, even when she is there. She is hiding behind so much, and damn, I don’t blame her. We don’t know everything from the start, but we start piecing things together, and my heart broke. And I was terrified for her. But she is a Crowne woman, and that means something.

We’ve met Julian before, and while he intrigued me before, I am invested now. He is charming, secretive in the best way and will do anything at this point for Wyn. But he is also lost, and somehow he finds his way to Rumour and back into Wyn’s life.

The romance is hot and steamy and everything that you want. The tension and chemistry in this one is high. Neither Wyn nor Julian wants to really give in or give up on one another, but a lot is standing in their way, honestly, mainly themselves. I just sat there giggling half the time because they are swoon-worthy.

I would say this is the darkest Victoria Wilder book I’ve read, so double-check those trigger warnings before jumping in because there is a lot that happens. And I don’t think it’s going to die down any time soon because these Crowne women are badass, and I know things are only just getting started.

Overall, Rumors & Whiskey is hot and sexual. The tension is dripping off the page, and then you are thrown into the terror and horrors of Rumour. You don’t know what is going to happen next, you don’t know who to trust, and there are so many more secrets that have yet to be revealed. I know I am ready for more. Are you?

Thank you to @atriabooksaus for an earc of Rumors & Whiskey 🥃. I’m in love.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I onl Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I only ended up reading 3 books in. 3 pretty fun books but one of my slowest readings months in a while.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.
