Books That Have Changed My Reading Habits

Books That Have Changed My Reading Habits

Nov 20, 2019

This week I’m sharing the books that change my reading habits over the last couple of years.  Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

Well, this post is a little late, but I thought better late than never. Today, I’m sharing the books that have changed the way that I read. Whether it’s reading a different genre, a new author or trying something that I’ve never read before. So, here are the books that have changed how I read, as always there is no particular order.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead: This is one of those books that rekindled my love for reading. Not just that, it’s what sent me on my reading journey that I’m still on today. It sent in motion my love for young adult and urban fantasy. It also sent me on this journey of blogging as well.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare: Like Vampire Academy, this series sent me on another reading journey and Cassandra is still one of my favourite authors to this day. Not only did it really enhance my love for young adult and fantasy, but it also gave me the push that I needed.

Catching Jordan (Hundred Oaks #1) by Miranda Kenneally: This is not only one of the first contemporary books that I read, but it’s also fueled my love for sports romance. Most of this series includes some sort of sports and that what made me love it so much. I loved that it was a different sport in each book, but also everything is still connected.

Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits #1) by Katie McGarry: This one here is what really got me into New Adult. While when first published it was classed as YA, I could call this and most of McGarry’s books as New Adult. But I adore them. They just hit me in the right spot. They hit me with lots of feels. And even today NA is very much part of what I read.

Full Measures (Flight & Glory #1) by Rebecca Yarros: Like Katie McGarry’s books, Rebecca Yarros really got me into reading more romance. It became addicting really. I wanted to read more and more and that is what I did.

Taste the Heat (Love and Games #1) by Rachel Harris: This has to be one of the first adult romances I read and like everything else. I not only loved the book. But I feel in love with the genre. I read so much romance that, probably more than YA.

Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers #1) by Lisa Kleypas: This was of the first historical romances that I read and loved. Up until this year, I read a lot of romance, but never really read anything historical. And then I picked Lisa Kleypas up and that changed me. I’ve read nearly all of her backlist now and I can’t wait to read more in the genre.

That is it for this post! What are some of the books that have made you change your reading habits? Let’s Chat!

Favourite Bookish Items | Top Ten Tuesday

Nov 12, 2019

This week I’m sharing the bookish items that I love. From bookmarks to art. It’s a bit of everything. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I have a love-hate relationship with bookish items. Sometimes I love them and can’t get enough of them. And then there are other times, where I’m trying to find a place for them to go, or figure out what I should be doing with them. But today I thought I would share some of my favourite bookish items. Some of these I have, some I wish I had. And some are just general bookish items. But here we go.

Bookish Related Art: I am a massive art fan generally, but there is something about bookish art that just makes me want to buy everything. Whenever I go to con’s like Supanova and Oz ComicCon, I end up spending way too much money on art – but really, I never regret it. If you have any favourite artist that do anything bookish, let me know!

The House of MinaLima: Talking about bookish art, I’ve been a massive fan of the world that MinaLima brings out, and this includes their amazing interactive/pop up classics. So when I went to the UK earlier this year, I had to make a stop at their store. And let me tell you I had to stop myself from buying more.  If you haven’t had a chance to check out their items please do!

Bookmarks: I have a massive love-hate relationship with bookmarks. Because I love having them, I love buying them. But do you know how many I lose? I don’t know where they end up, but I can never find bookmarks when I need them. And most of the time I end up using whatever I can find. A receipt, an unused tissue, my phone. Even my work lanyard.

Pins/Buttons/Badges: While called different things around the world, they are all the same thing. And I love them. These are another thing that I just keep on buying. I love getting a mix of the really fancy ones, and the simple circle buttons. I love wearing these on my work lanyard, and I like changing what I have every couple of months.

Keychains: I seem to like things that I really don’t need many of. And keychains are one of them.  I love finding new and exciting keychains that I want and sometimes get. I don’t need really more than one, but I want more than one. And there are some really amazing artists out there.

As Travars Inspired from WonderDame      Books are my world from BookmanityShop

Bags: Whether it’s a tote bag or a backpack, I love getting book-related bags. There is always a need for bags, especially tote bags here in Victoria now. And I can never stop myself from getting more and more. They always come in handy and I love seeing the different designs.

Candles: I don’t think anyone will be surprised that this is on my list. I love candles in general, but bookish candles always hit the mark for me. Especially when they are done well. I love being able to smell things from books especially when they are described in the book and they smell exactly how you thought they would.

And that is it for this post! What are some of the bookish items that you love? Do we have any that are the same? Let’s Chat!

Books That Give Off Autumn Vibes

Books That Give Off Autumn Vibes

Nov 5, 2019

This week I’m sharing the books that remind me of Autumn/Fall. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

While it’s now Spring here in Australia, and it’s heating up. But sometimes I do wish to go back to Autumn. So today I am sharing all the books that remind me of Autumn. Whether it’s the title, the cover or even the book its self. Like always these are in no order.

It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers #2) by Lisa Kleypas: The title of this one is a dead giveaway. But it isn’t just the title for this one. Everything about this one screams Autumn and I love it. Throw in a ball and a romance that just melts my heart. I would read and re-read this one any day.

Boundless (Unearthly #3) by Cynthia Hand: It’s the cover for this one. I love the covers of this series so much, but this one just stands out. I love the movement of the leaves, the glow and the colours just make everything more perfect.

Bittersweet (True North #1) by Sarina Bowen: I don’t know what it is about this book and series that remind me of Autumn. Especially since a lot of them are set during Winter or Spring. It might the covers or just the fact it’s all set on a farm. This series just makes me so happy.

You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn: Again this one of those covers that just remind me of Autumn. I think it’s the way that the hair is flowing, along with the colours of the grass. Plus this book was fantastic.

Halo (Halo #1) by Alexandra Adornetto: This is one of the first series that I really feel in love with as a young teen. And the cover immediately screams Autumn to me. It’s the sunset really.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley: While it’s not Autumn here in Australia for Halloween, it’s what it’s easily associated with. So I had to add Fraenstein on to this list. This has to be one of my favourite horror novels of all time. I love the gothic writing and I recommend it to everyone.

Trial by Fire (Worldwalker #1) by Josephine Angelini: This one is one the list because it’s all about magic and witches. Like I just said Autumn and Halloween fit together so well. And this is one of my favourite fantasy series. I love the way that magic is in this one and I just want more people to read it.

Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Vict Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Victoria Wilder’s Bourbon Boys series, and as soon as I heard she was writing a new series, around whiskey and women. Well, hell year. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but after a few chapters, I was hooked.

Wyn is hiding, hiding from everyone, even when she is there. She is hiding behind so much, and damn, I don’t blame her. We don’t know everything from the start, but we start piecing things together, and my heart broke. And I was terrified for her. But she is a Crowne woman, and that means something.

We’ve met Julian before, and while he intrigued me before, I am invested now. He is charming, secretive in the best way and will do anything at this point for Wyn. But he is also lost, and somehow he finds his way to Rumour and back into Wyn’s life.

The romance is hot and steamy and everything that you want. The tension and chemistry in this one is high. Neither Wyn nor Julian wants to really give in or give up on one another, but a lot is standing in their way, honestly, mainly themselves. I just sat there giggling half the time because they are swoon-worthy.

I would say this is the darkest Victoria Wilder book I’ve read, so double-check those trigger warnings before jumping in because there is a lot that happens. And I don’t think it’s going to die down any time soon because these Crowne women are badass, and I know things are only just getting started.

Overall, Rumors & Whiskey is hot and sexual. The tension is dripping off the page, and then you are thrown into the terror and horrors of Rumour. You don’t know what is going to happen next, you don’t know who to trust, and there are so many more secrets that have yet to be revealed. I know I am ready for more. Are you?

Thank you to @atriabooksaus for an earc of Rumors & Whiskey 🥃. I’m in love.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!
