Top Ten Tuesday

Books I’ve Read That I Want To Buy

Books I’ve Read That I Want To Buy

Aug 27, 2019

This week I’m sharing with you all the books that I’ve read, but I need to buy and own. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I’ve read a lot of books over the last 9 years of blogging and many of those books I don’t own. Whether I’ve borrowed books from the library, both physically or through ebook services. And borrowing books from friends or co-workers, and then recently reading books that my work receives as reading copies. So today I thought I would share some of the books that I’ve read, but now I need to buy.

Anything by Lisa Kleypas. Over the past couple of months, I have slowly been making my way through all her historical fiction and lovely it – so much. But not I need to buy them all – because they are fantastic and I always need them in my life for re-reads. But this is going to take some time – and money because there are heaps.

Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett: I’ve loved every Jenn Bennett book that I’ve read, and it was exactly the same for Serious Moonlight. I was lucky enough to receive an earc of this one, but I need a physical copy for sure.

You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn: I love this book so much. I read this late last year and I really want to own a physical copy of this one. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did and it blew me away. A re-read is also in the books for this one.

Any of Sarina Bowen’s books: If you have known me for a while, then you would know that I love Sarina Bowen. So I want to eventually buy all her books in physical form. They are seriously some of my favourite romance books ever – it will happen.

All the Rage, Some Girls Are and Cracked Up To Be by Courtney Summers: I love all three of these books. I read them years ago, but I still think about them now. Each one of these novels is impactful and emotional. But I really want to read them again.

Fight and Glory series by Rebecca Yarros: Again another romance series that I have as ebooks, but really want physical copies. This is one of the first romance series that I read and adored. And I really want to own the series in my hands.

And that is it for this week! What are some of the books that you’ve read that you want to buy? Do we have any that’s the same? Let’s Chat!

Characters I’d Love to Be Besties With

Characters I’d Love to Be Besties With

Aug 13, 2019

This week I’m sharing all the characters that I’d think I would be best friends with. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I had so much fun this week. I love thinking of characters as more than someone on paper. It’s what makes them real to me. And if they are written well, that becomes very easy. Today I share all the characters that I think I would love to be best friends with.

Beatrix Hathaway from Love in the Afternoon (The Hathaways #5) by Lisa Kleypas. I seriously love this girl. Every time that she would appear she left a smile on my face. Her love for animals of all types really gave Beatrix character and I loved her nature. It made her real and honest. I mean I wouldn’t love her leaving smaller little creatures in my house, but I think we would have a lot of fun.

Harper from A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. Harper has to be one of my favourite female protagonists ever. Her voice seized me from the very start. I love that she stands up not only for herself but what she believes in. That’s why I think we’d fantastic friends. We would get along quite well I think.

Emma Carstairs from Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. I don’t think anyone should be surprised that Emma is on my list. I love her strength and her perseverance and I just want to be her best friend.  Not only will she protect me, but I think we’ll have a fantastic time together.

Alex Claremont-Diaz from Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: Alex is a recent character that I’d love to be best friends with. Alex just got me. He had me laughing, smiling and just made my day. I also think that we would have so much fun together. And nevertheless I think I would be able to bring Alex back down after he would have a little freakout.

Taylor from Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde. As soon as I started reading this one, I was able to connect with Taylor more than a character. Her passion for everything that she loved, including her friends was so great to see. I adored that she wasn’t ashamed to share her love for books, TV shows, movies. We would sit around all day watching and talking about everything pop culture.

Bailey from Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett. I totally clicked with Bailey as a protagonist and I immediately wanted to take this journey with her and wanted to know what was going to happen next. It was just so easy being in her shoes that I’d also love to be her bestie.

And that is it for this post! Who are some of the characters that you would like to be best friends with? Do we share any that’s the same? Let’s Chat!

2019 Book Covers That I Love

2019 Book Covers That I Love

Aug 6, 2019

Today I’m talking about all the covers that I’ve loved this year. I decided to have my own freedom with this week’s Top Ten Tuesday and it was so much fun.  Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

Covers are always one of the first things that attract me to a book. Sometimes when I am processing books in at work and I spot something in the boxes, it’s the cover that grabs my attention first. There are times where I’m not even interested in the book, but the cover is just gorgeous. So today I am sharing some of the covers from 2019 that I’ve loved so far.

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig: This cover is just so gorgeous. At first, you don’t see everything, but then you take everything in and everything stands out. The rockpool, the sea creature, and the font work so perfectly.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely (Cursebreakers #1) by Brigid Kemmerer: There should be a surprise that this has made my list. I love this cover so much. It’s simple, but also conveys everything it needs to. Plus what’s on the inside is just as amazing. I also love how the colours work here, the blue, greys and silver, but then you get the pop of green.

Descendant of the Crane by Joan He: Every time I see this cover I fall in love. I can’t tell you the one thing I love, I just love it all. The colours are perfect together that blends well with the simple font.

Her Royal Highness (Royals #2) by Rachel Hawkins: I just love this cover. It’s simple but totally works. The faces in the glasses, the way that the body goes into the background. Very minimal colour use. I just love it.

Within These Lines by Stephanie Morrill: I haven’t heard really anything about this book, but the cover for this works for me so well. It coveys so much with a simple image.

The Lady Rogue by Jenn Bennett: This cover is a little more busy than the others on this list. But it really seems to work here. The gold and the pink really work nicely and make the cover stand out.

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: I love the cover for this one. Illustrated covers are popping up more and more in romance and I really like how it was used here. In saying that I do have thoughts on these types of covers for romance – but I might talk about that another day. Check out my discussion with Ely about our love for this book.

The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys: This cover is stunning. I love that it’s mostly the one colour, with the little hint of something different. It works beautifully here. Plus I cannot wait to read this one

Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Vict Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Victoria Wilder’s Bourbon Boys series, and as soon as I heard she was writing a new series, around whiskey and women. Well, hell year. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but after a few chapters, I was hooked.

Wyn is hiding, hiding from everyone, even when she is there. She is hiding behind so much, and damn, I don’t blame her. We don’t know everything from the start, but we start piecing things together, and my heart broke. And I was terrified for her. But she is a Crowne woman, and that means something.

We’ve met Julian before, and while he intrigued me before, I am invested now. He is charming, secretive in the best way and will do anything at this point for Wyn. But he is also lost, and somehow he finds his way to Rumour and back into Wyn’s life.

The romance is hot and steamy and everything that you want. The tension and chemistry in this one is high. Neither Wyn nor Julian wants to really give in or give up on one another, but a lot is standing in their way, honestly, mainly themselves. I just sat there giggling half the time because they are swoon-worthy.

I would say this is the darkest Victoria Wilder book I’ve read, so double-check those trigger warnings before jumping in because there is a lot that happens. And I don’t think it’s going to die down any time soon because these Crowne women are badass, and I know things are only just getting started.

Overall, Rumors & Whiskey is hot and sexual. The tension is dripping off the page, and then you are thrown into the terror and horrors of Rumour. You don’t know what is going to happen next, you don’t know who to trust, and there are so many more secrets that have yet to be revealed. I know I am ready for more. Are you?

Thank you to @atriabooksaus for an earc of Rumors & Whiskey 🥃. I’m in love.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!
