Finally Reading Again | September Wrap Up 2020

Finally Reading Again | September Wrap Up 2020

Sep 30, 2020

The last few months I have been in a little bit of a runt. I’ve read, but it hasn’t been to what I can and wanted to. But September finally lifted for me and I read 26 books in September and I had a lot of fantastic reads.

Overall my reads this month were fantastic. I had a few high 4 star and 5 reads and nothing below a 3 star. I just read what I felt like and it was a great way to get out of the slump that I was feeling. Like always these are in no order.

Demetri (The Volkov Empire #1) by Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez: I read the companion series by these two earlier this year and I finally picked up these ones here. I didn’t like it as much as their other books I’ve read both the duo. However,  I still enjoyed reading it and can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Always Only You (Bergman Brothers #2) by Chloe Liese: After finishing Only When It’s Us last month I had to pick up book two and it’s one of my favourite books this month and for the year. It’s a fun, beautiful and charming sports romance that explores the ups and downs of falling in love. I adore the exploration of disability in the book and I can’t wait to see more of it throughout the series. Full Review.

WAGS #1 – #3 by Naima Simone: I picked this series up on a whim. I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but I had such a blast reading these books and I can’t wait to read more from Naima Simone for sure. My favourite at the moment as to be book 3, Scoring the Players Baby. You can check my series review now.

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo: I’ve been making my way through Elizabeth Acevedo’s books and they have all just been fantastic. I adored this one so much. I love how the notion of being a teen mom was explored in this, especially the positivity of it. But also the struggles. I can’t wait to read more.

A King so Cold by Ella Fields: I wasn’t planning to read this book this month, but I first the read chapter and then could not put it down. It is a dark, haunting and sexy adult romance.  It’s magical and whimsy but also filled with vengeance and blood. There are unreliable characters and a protagonist that isn’t one for everybody.

Bull (Kings of Mayhem MC #6) by Penny Dee: I read the rest of this series earlier this year, but this one came out in August and I finally picked it up. I really enjoyed this one a lot. It had all the angst and romance that I was excepting. There were parts that I didn’t love, but overall it was a good read.

The Duchess Deal (Girl Meets Duke #1) by Tessa Dare: I’ve been meaning to pick up another Tessa Dare for a while now and this is the one that everyone tells me to read. And you know what? I adored it. The romance was fantastic, the writing was great and I had such a blast reading it. I’ve now got the rest of the series that has been published.

Lies & Lullabies (Hush Note #1) by Sarina Bowen: The romance turns from sweet to sexy and beautiful. With interesting protagonists and storyline, Lies & Lullabies is a fantastic read and a great introduction into the world of Hush Note. I’m really excited about the next two books. Full Review.

The Burning Shadow (Origin #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout: I have had this book for a while now and I finally picked it up when I challenge myself to read some of the highest-rated books on my tbr. I love reading The Burning Shadow. Evie and Luc are simply fantastic, both as their character, and together they are so much fun. Full Review

Brazen and the Beast (The Bareknuckle Bastards #2) by Sarah MacLean: There should be no surprise that I picked this one up this September. I’ve been making my way through this series and this one was just as fantastic. I’m so excited about the last for that is for sure. The romances are just brilliant and the characters and entertaining and fun to read.

Chicago Defiance MC Series #1-#8 by K.E. Osborn: I picked this one up simply because I felt like an MC read. I didn’t know too much about it, but it seemed interesting. I enjoyed reading this series overall. It was intense, full of romacne, unexpected events and everything else that I love about MC romances.

Explosive (Houston Defiance MC #1) by K.E. Osborn: I accidentally read this one before picking up the Chicago Defiance series, but it wasn’t a massive deal. This was an entertaining read and I loved reading it. It was a great MC book and I’m excited for book two – which is out in October.

In the Prince’s Bed (Royal Brotherhood #1) by Sabrina Jeffries: This is the next series that I plan to read by Sabrina Jeffires and it was fantastic. It was a great start and introduction into a new series and characters. I adored the romance and currently reading book 2 and loving it.

Psy-Changeling #3-#4 by Nalini Singh: I’m trying to read this series slowly but I just can’t help it. They are fantastic. I love the romances, the plot and everything else. But most of all I love the cubs and pups, they just make the scenes so much better. I’ve ordered the first few in the series but going to try and take it slow if I can.

Reaper (Ruthless Kings MC #1) by K.L. Savage: I needed some more MC romances in my life and this was available;e on Kindle Unlimited. It was an okay read and I plan to check out the second book in the series for sure, and then I will see if I will read more.

Tempting Lies (Tempt Me #4) by Sara Whitney: I just finished this one this morning and I had a great time reading it. It’s a fake romance book and it was enterating, hot and I liked reading it. I hadn’t read the rest of the books in the series but that didn’t take away from the reading experience at all.

Whoo! And those are all the books that I read this September. I finally feel like myself a little bit more. I’m still not working, but hopefully, in the next couple of weeks we open up and I can get back to selling books.

What did you read this September? Have you read anything that I did? What are you looking forward to next month? Let’s Chat!

Getting Back Into Reading | August Wrap Up

Getting Back Into Reading | August Wrap Up

Aug 31, 2020

After last month. I really wanted to get back into reading more in august. And while it did take a little while. I’m finally back into the reading groove. I ended up reading 12 books in August, with a fair few towards the end of the month.

It was a mixed bag this month, some were re-reads, there was one that I DNF’d. And then there were books that I loved. So, in the end, it was a well rounded month of reads. Anyway, let’s get into it. Like always these are in no order.

Inked in Lies (The Fallen Men #5) by Giana Darling: This was my first read of the month and it was a great one to start with. Lila and Nova were fantastic together. I love seeing their relationship build slowly over the years. At times it was messy and complicated. But the reader can see right from the start how much they care for one another. Check out my full review.

Through the Storm (Le Veq Family #1) by Beverly Jenkins: I just love Beverly Jenkins. The romance in this one is strong and intense. But it’s also adorable. I loved the tension between the two and getting to watch them fall in love. I think this might be my second favourite of Jenkins books that I have read so far.

Lick (Stage Dive #1) by Kylie Scott: This was my first re-read of the month. I felt like I was going into a little slump so I needed a pick me up book that I know that I love. This is just a fun series to read. This isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoy it a lot.

Winds of the Storm (Le Veq Family #2) by Beverly Jenkins: I felt like some more historical romance and I thought this one would be the perfect one to pick up. I enjoyed this one a lot. The banter between the siblings is so strong and I love that with a passion. The romance was intense and adorable. And everything that I look for.

Play (Stage Dive #2) by Kylie Scott: I had to pick this one up after finishing Lick. This one is ridiculous, but I love it so much. It’s the most emotional of all the books, but it just works so well, with the protagonist and the romacne.

Prince Charming (Royals #1) by Rachel Hawkins: This is the next book I picked up this August. This has been on my TBR for over a year now and I finally picked it up. I loved reading this one. It was the YA book that I needed. I can’t wait to read the second book.

The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn: I was slightly disappointed with this one. I liked it don’t get me wrong, but I thought I was going to like it a lot more. I had a fun time reading it and it was a quick romance novel that was swoon-worthy and full of laughs. Check out my full review.

Dark Secret (Darkhaven Saga #1) by Danielle Rose: This was my DNF for the month. It was just weak. I didn’t like the characters, the plot. I couldn’t figure out what was happening. In the end, I skimmed the last half.

Point of Origin (Legacy #0.5) by Rebecca Yarros: Not entirely sure why I re-read this one. But I just wanted to read a romance that I know that I love. It was like a refresher for me.

Only When It’s Us (Bergman Brothers #1) by Chloe Liese: I didn’t know much about this book until the sequel popped up on my radar. But I wanted to start with the first book. And I’m so glad that I did. This book was fantastic. I adored the romance. I loved that it included disability. And it was just a fantastic read.

Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh: I finally started this series. Nick has been telling me to read this series for some time now and I did it. And I regret putting it off for so long. It was fantastic. I couldn’t stop reading.

Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling #2) by Nalini Singh: As soon as I finished the first book I had to get started on book two. I had so much fun reading it. I love the characters and the world and I can’t wait for more. I’ve just ordered the next 3 books in the series.

And those are the books that I read in August! What did you read this month? Have you read any of the books on my list? Let’s Chat!

A Very Slow Reading Month | July Wrap Up

A Very Slow Reading Month | July Wrap Up

Aug 2, 2020

July was a really slow reading month for me. I only managed to read 7 books in July and most of them were at the end of the month. This normally does happen around this time of year. I’m not sure why, but it does so I knew that it was coming.

And while I didn’t read many books this month, I did read a good range and I enjoyed most of them. I’m already having a good start to August, so let’s hope it keeps on going like this fro the rest of the month. Anyway, let’s get into it.

Check, Please!, Book 2: Sticks & Scones (Check, Please! #3-4) by Ngozi Ukazu: I finally got around to reading this one and gosh did I love it. This book like the first one just put a smile on my face. It makes me so happy. The romance is ADORABLE and I want everyone to read it. I even got my younger sister to pick it up recently and she loved it as much as I did. It’s a sports m/m romance that includes baking. What else more could I want?

Wicked and the Wallflower (The Bareknuckle Bastards #1) by Sarah MacLean: I’ve been wanting to pick up Sarah MacLean for some time now and I bought the first book in her newest series a few months ago and it finally arrived at the end of June. And I’m so glad that I picked it up. Because this one was fantastic. I love romance so much. It’s full of banter and mystery and made reading it so much enjoyable. I’ve just ordered books 2 and 3 and can’t wait to read them when they arrive.

The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood #12) by J.R. Ward: I’ve slowly been making my way through this series again. It’s a massive series and I don’t want to do what I did the first time is read 11 books in a row and then get burnt out. So I’m trying to spread them out. I enjoyed this one quite a lot. I liked being back with Wrath and Beth and seeing how their story is going, but from their point of view. They had to deal with many issues in this one and I liked how it explored both supernatural and mundane themes.

Under Locke by Mariana Zapata: As I’ve said before, over the last couple months I’ve slowly been making my way through Mariana Zapata’s backlist of books. I think this one has to be one of my favourites. I liked the romance a lot in this one, as well as everything else that is going on. If you don’t know already, I love tattooed and tattooing so this one appealed to me from the start. Like all her books the romance is very slow, but I like seeing that sometimes in romance.

Hands Down by Mariana Zapata: As I was reading her backlist titles, she released a new book and it was available on KU so I jumped on it. I enjoyed certain parts of this one, but it wasn’t my favourite that is for sure. I liked that it was a second chance/friends to lovers romance. It made for great tension and banter. I liked the friendship that Bianca and Zac had how it built. However, I felt that they jumped from friends to lovers, without anything happening. The reader knows how Bianca feels, but I felt that we didn’t know that about Zac and that made it jarring.

The Reality of Everything (Flight & Glory #5) by Rebecca Yarros: This book murdered me. I cried so much while reading this one. I can’t talk about this too much as it does spoil the rest of the series, especially the previous book. But gosh, Rebecca Yarros is able to write grief in such a way that you feel everything and anything. It hurts the soul. My full review will be up soon for this one. But if you have read the first four books in this series, you need to read this one.

A Widow’s Guide to Scandal (The Sons of Neptune #1) by Hallie Alexander: This book took me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting to like this one as much as I did. It includes not only a fantastic romance but also great characters. Henrietta was such a pleasure of a protagonist. I loved knowing about her life and I loved getting to know her more. Marcus was a character and he added another dimension to the novel that lifted it. You can check out more of my thoughts in my full review.

And those are the books that I read in July! What books did you read in July? Have you read any of the books that I have? What are your plans for August? Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
