Top Ten Tuesday

Books I Love To Read This Time Of Year

Books I Love To Read This Time Of Year

Dec 8, 2020

This week it’s a holiday freebie so I’m sharing the books I love to read this time of year.  Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I don’t read many holiday-related books. I’m not too sure why. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that where I live, it’s summer during Christmas. And I’ve never had the chance to experience a white Christmas. So today I thought I would share some of the books that I like to read and re-read this time of year.

A Wallflower Christmas (Wallflowers #4.5) by Lisa Kleypas: I mean what is more perfect than reading a Lisa Kleypas historical romance set around Christmas? I adore this one and I think it’s going to one that I will re-read often.

Life on the Edge (Edge #1) by Jennifer Comeaux: I don’t know what it is about this series that makes me want to re-read it during the holiday period. Maybe because it has to be with figure-skating, and then that makes me think of snow. There are also some Christmas scenes in it as well. But this is such a fun series and I love re-reading it.

North of Need (Hearts of the Anemoi #1) by Laura Kaye: I’ve read a chuck on Laura Kaye and this is the first of her paranormal/fantasy that I picked up. It’s great, I had a blast reading it and I need to continue with the rest of the series for sure.

Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits #1) by Katie McGarry: I tend to do a lot of re-reading at the end of the year, not totally sure why I do it. But I do. And Katie McGarry is someone I love to read it. And this series, especially the first book is one I adore. It’s one of the books that got me reading more and more romance. I always love a bad boy.

Rookie Move (Brooklyn Bruisers #1) by Sarina Bowen: This is another favourite of mine that I love to re-read. It’s such a fun series, and this first book just hits all the right places. I adore the romance, I love the characters and it has ice hockey so why not?

The Duke and I (Bridgertons #1) by Julia Quinn: Historical romances are some of my favourite things to read this time of year. I’m normally so busy with work, that heavy high fantasies are just hard to read and I can’t keep focus. But HR novels are perfect and this series has been a gem reading this year and I can’t wait to read more.

Check, Please! Book 1: # Hockey (Check, Please! #1-2) by Ngozi Ukazu: As I said before December is normally a very busy month work-wise for me. So graphic novels are a great way for me to still read, but not be tied down by a book. This has to be one of my favourite graphic novels series ever. It just makes me smile and feel so happy.

Full Measures (Flight & Glory #1) by Rebecca Yarros: This is another one I love re-reading this time of year. I’m not sure why it happens but Rebecca Yarros just knows how to hit all the right places. And this book right here is what started it all.  The romance, the heartbreak and heartache. But then, the hope. Oh gosh.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune: At this time of year, I like to read books that just make me happy. And this is one of them for sure. I am sure that you are getting sick of me talking about this one, but it’s fantastic and I will never stop. But if you are looking for a book that will just make you smile. Then this is it.

And that is it for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday! What books do you love to read this time of year? Do we share any that is the same? Let’s Chat!

Books That I Would Love To Read Again

Books That I Would Love To Read Again

Dec 1, 2020

This week I’m sharing the books that I would love to read again. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I’m a massive re-reader. I love doing it. Sometimes I don’t even read the whole book again, but certain scenes that I love. So today I thought I would share some of the books that I would love to re-read but haven’t yet. There is a mix of YA, and romance here like normal. And like always these are in no order.

The Guinevere Deception (Camelot Rising #1) by Kiersten White: I think I’m going to read this one again soon. The second book just came out and I think I want to be fresh reading it. I adore this book so much and It’s such an interesting retelling.

Check, Please! Book 1: # Hockey (Check, Please! #1-2) by Ngozi Ukazu: I absolutely adore both part one and two of this series and I would re-read them again in an instant. The romance is adorable, the illustrations are perfect and it just made me feel so happy. And I also feel that with graphic novels, manga etc you always pick up something new each time.

Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh: I only started this series a few months ago, but there is no doubt that I will be reading it again soon. I have seriously fallen in love with the characters, and the story and everything else in between. I’m about to start book 7 and I can’t wait.

The Belles (The Belles #1) by Dhonielle Clayton: It’s been a few years since I read this and I really want to re-read it before I continue with the series. I remember really enjoying it and excited to see where the story is taken.

The Duke and I (Bridgertons #1) by Julia Quinn: This is another series that I have started this year and I will be re-reading again soon. This has to be one of my favourite historical romances and that just makes me so excited. It has everything that I look for in an HR and more.

Chain of Gold (The Last Hours #1) by Cassandra Clare: I always love re-reading Cassandra Clare and I will most likely read this one again before Chain of Iron comes out next year. Just to give myself a refresher. But honestly, I adored the characters, the world and the writing and I can’t wait for more.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune: Do I honestly need to say much about this one. You should all know by now that is one of the best books I have ever read and I will re-read it at any time. This book just makes me so happy. So it will be a fantastic pick me up.

And I Darken (The Conqueror’s Saga #1) by Kiersten White: This has to be the start of one of my favourite series of all time and I think it’s about time that I do a re-read. It’s such a fantastic series, it’s intense, the stakes are always high and I love it.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller: This book is just fantastic and it’s one that I would read again in a heartbeat. The writing is incredible, the romance hits me hard and I cry like a baby throughout. It’s one of those books that just blows me away.

Disruption (Disruption #1) by Jessica Shirvington: This is one that I have already re-read, but I would do it again. It’s been a few years since I’ve read this series, but it’s such a fascinating dystopian duology and I feel like it’s time for a re-read

And those are the books that I hope I can read again soon. Do you like re-reading? What are some of the books that you want to? Let’s Chat!

The Books I’m Thankful I Found In 2020

The Books I’m Thankful I Found In 2020

Nov 24, 2020

This week I’m sharing the books that I’m thankful and glad that I read in 2020. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is a Thanksgiving freebie. And I thought it would be fun to share some of the books that I’m thankful that I’ve read in 2020. There is a mix of everything on this list, but I have read a lot of romance this year. Anyway, enough of that, let’s get into it. Like always these are in no order.

Check, Please! Book 1: # Hockey (Check, Please! #1-2) by Ngozi Ukazu: I adored this one from the moment that I picked it up. Bitty is absolutely adorable and I could not wipe the smile off my face if you tried. It’s one that I am always recommending and I won’t stop.

Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros: Great And Precious Things is heartbreaking, beautiful and just so good. It explores the notion of guilt and grief, as well as a fresh start. Camden and Willow were perfect protagonists that each had their own story. Rebecca Yarros knows how to tear me apart and she did again. Full Review

The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling by Wai Chim: This is an empowering novel that explores family, mental health and trying to find your own feet. while there is darkness in this novel and sometimes you feel like there is no hope. There is also warmth. It has one of the cutest romances ever. Full Review

This is How We Change the Ending by Vikki Wakefield: There should be no surprise that this has made my list and gosh I’m thankful for reading it. This is a brilliant #LoveOzYA that I think everyone needs to read. This book made me feel so many things from anger to hope. From sadness to being proud. This poignant coming of age story that captures the lives of those that struggle day by day. That tries to make the best of what they have. Full Review

Chain of Gold (The Last Hours #1) by Cassandra Clare: Again you should be surprised that this has made my list. I adored this one, and if the series goes the same way I’m going to love it as much as The Dark Artifices. I love the characters, the friendships, the storyline and the world. It was just fantastic for me.

The Ones Who Got Away (The Ones Who Got Away #1) by Roni Loren: I’m really thankful that I started this series. This book is emotional, beautiful, heartwrenching and hit me hard. I’ve already read book 2 and I’m looking forwarding to reading the rest of the series.

Bringing Down the Duke (A League of Extraordinary Women #1) by Evie Dunmore: I’m just so glad that I picked up this one in 2020. It was such a fantastic historical romance and something that I would not have read a few years ago, but now I’m loving Evie Dunmore so much. You can check out my review of Bringing Down the Duke now as well as my discussion with Ely on book two.

Lessons in Corruption (The Fallen Men #1) by Giana Darling: This is another series that I’m thankful that I read this year. I wasn’t expecting to like this one as much as I did and now I’m hanging for book 6. Like I need it right now. You can check out my review of the series as well as book 5 now.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune: This should not surprise anyone. This is by far one of my favourites reads this year and one that I am incredibly thankful that I picked up. It’s a magical and profound novel that truly takes the reader on an experience. It explores family and the notion that sometimes you find them in unlikely ways. You can check out my full review to see why else I adored this book.

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo: This book just hit me in all the right places. The passion and thought that went into every word, every poem was just perfect. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
